Dear Parents

What actually is Global Citizenship? (After all, the world isn’t a city, is it?)

We say this:
Global citizenship at Wellington involves LEARNING and DOING GOOD.
  • We LEARN about people and places around the world and how their ways of thinking and living may be different to ours.
  • Understanding what we can, from first-hand experience and reliable evidence, we TAKE ACTION for the benefit of all people, societies and environments, not just our own.
And we are taking active steps to do as much good as we can. We now have official agreements with:
  • the WWF, and are working as a whole school with them on the Eco-Schools initiative;
  • Scholars of Sustenance (SoS), a food rescue foundation with a very simple brief, and very immediate impact;
  • Terracycle, another simple-concept, high-impact charity that does waterway clean-ups and some amazing recycling.
We also work with a number of other charitable organisations.

We prioritise actual action that will genuinely help real people. That’s the responsibility which Global Citizenship places on us.

  Have a great weekend!
Chris

Our Early Years students are always busy, always engaged, always learning. They are just two weeks into term and are completely settled into their new learning environments. Of course it helps that these spaces are the finest in Bangkok - inside and outside.

Thank you to Mr Stewart Findlay, Assistant Head of Senior School and Mr Tom Lemon, Head of Wellbeing who delivered a really useful workshop this morning for all Senior School Parents. Mr Findlay talked about the crucial relationship between students and their House Tutor.

Thank you to Rembrandt who are currently completing the individual photography for our Year 6-11 students in the beautiful, light filled Senior School atrium. Zephaniah class took their turn this morning. We think you'll agree that their uniform looks exceptionally smart!

Friends of Wellington Coffee Mornings

Our Friends of Wellington have done so much good in our community since the day our School opened. They have organized many different events over the last five years and are planning even more this term (check out the calendar above to see more!). The current committee will soon be holding elections for a new committee. They are holding two coffee mornings at the end of September to talk to anyone who is interested in supporting, joining or standing for election to the new committee. Come and meet the team and ask questions. EVERYONE is very welcome. Tues 26 Sept 8.00-9.30 – Senior School Café and Atrium and Fri 29 Sept 8.00-9.30 – Junior School Lobby.

Contact FoW@wellingtoncollege.ac.th with any questions. See you there!

Year 11 Social

Thursday 7 September saw the first of our Senior School Socials held at the Rabbit’s Grove right near School. We were delighted to welcome so many Year 11 parents to enjoy drinks and snacks with Dr Jim Panton and the Senior School leadership and teaching team. It was so wonderful tp be able to relax and chat over a drink. Each year group will have a special evening this year and we are looking forward to the next one after Half Term.

(K Nok, we LOVE the Wellington cocktail!)

Building connections with your child during the weekend:

Meaningful connections are about quality time, connecting with your child can have a lasting impact on your and your child’s relationship. It will also provide the support and reassurance that your child needs. Some tips for the weekend:

  • Have daily “connect” time with your child, take them to their favourite place during the weekend and treat them with a meal they enjoy.

  • Make meals, bake their favourite dessert with them, or find an activity of your child’s choosing to do with them. Be sure to follow through and complete the activity with your child, this will give them a chance to open and share with you.

  • Turn off technology when you spend time with your child.
