Dear Parents
Traffic.
Logic tells us that 821 students all coming to one school at the same time are likely to cause traffic difficulties. Only Hogwarts would be able to remove that problem: there is no magic in real life!
Routes to Wellington are becoming more congested, simply because more cars are coming here. And, far too often, scooters that fail to obey traffic rules get into accidents at the busy times. We will be discussing sustainable solutions with the police, but they are not Harry Potter, either!
Schools usually address traffic problems with school buses. These can operate:
I’d welcome comments and suggestions on this. It is time for us to implement some change!
Onwards and upwards.
Have a great weekend!
Chris

Welly Walk
We are so proud of our incredibly generous community. Last year we helped so many different people in so many different ways. This year we are already planning some great new initiatives. Thank you to Ms Tanisha McCraw, Junior School Service Lead who is working with all our community on the first Welly Walk on Thursday 12 October. Proceeds from this fun Sponsored Walk are going to Banpubon school, located in Kanchanaburi. The children are aged 2 to 11 with classes of around 14 children. It is a small, happy and nurturing environment, but they need our help to renovate and refurbish their library and many other parts of the school. We would love to give them a better learning environment.
We would also like to extend the invitation to parents to complete a lap or two at pick up that day. The Welly Walk will be the beginning of the fundraising for the Banpubon school library, and we hope to help in many more ways over the coming year. Our target for the library is 270, 000 THB so we are encouraging our students to raise around 1000 THB each for the Welly Walk. Please help your children ask family and friends for sponsorship. They can be sponsored per lap they complete or one total amount for taking part. Of course, if you’d like to donate more or help in any other way we would be grateful for your support. More information to come closer to the time.

Basketball
Wellington has had a great start to the Basketball season! We are very proud of our Under 11 teams who went to Brighton on Thursday and emerged with victories for both Boys and Girls!
The Under 11 Boys played amidst a very enthusiastic atmosphere and with a challenging opponent as Brighton had three boys taller than our tallest player! The boys used a stifling defense to take a 4-1 lead by Half Time. In the third and fourth quarter the Wellington boys used our depth and a solid transition game combined with very impressive ball movement to pull away. Every player saw action and all the boys contributed to a great team win and start of the season.

The Girls team had an exceptional victory which was well deserved with all girls making a great contribution. The lead was small but significant at Half Time and after the break our Girls really pulled away! They displayed some brilliant ball movement, finding open players under the basket and were able to generate five baskets to extend the lead.
Coach David and his team were immensely proud of every player – they all made a great contribution. They gave a special shout out to Avi and Torfah for the Girls and Poom, Aiden, Tan, and Atom for the Boys |

We very much enjoyed hosting our first Football game of the academic year - and it was a true international! Thank you so much to our visitors from Bishop Cotton Boys School in India. We were honoured to be part of their SE Asian trip and the two games played by our Senior School Boys were very close and lots of fun.

Well done to every single child who stood for election as Junior School House Captain last week. They all showed such courage to stand in front of their friends and share ideas on how to make this the best year ever at Wellington and, of course, how they would lead their House to success.

Practicing mindfulness with your child:
Looking for a simple tool to help your child during the weekend? Why not use a simple tool called Five Finger Breathing, an activity which encourages focus, self-awareness, and relaxation.
-
Encourage your child to close their eyes and focus on syncing their breaths with their finger tracing.
-
Sitting with your child and practicing the Five Finger Breathing exercise together will allow them to better understand and regulate their emotions while strengthening their concentration skills.
|
|
|
•
Ask your child: How did you feel before and after the Five Finger Breathing exercise? Did you notice any changes in your emotions and thoughts? |
