Dear Parents

I’m pleased to be able to note that we managed to push forward the Junior School playground repairs, which are being completed over this weekend. With a much better-quality surface than before.

And the South Field, our new full-sized sports field, beyond the Skylight Building, is looking excellent: the grass is rooting very well, and it will only be a few more days till that new facility is fully operational.

We will shortly have not only the best school sports field in Bangkok, but the two best sports fields in Bangkok.

It was great to see so many parents this morning in the Junior Lobby, buying FoW goods and thinking about standing for election for the Committee.

I have to say that our outgoing Committee has been unbelievably good for the whole community, and they will be a very hard act to follow. But we have so many smart, successful, supportive parents at Wellington these days: we could fill many committees!

I look forward to welcoming the new Committee into the role soon :)

 Have a wonderful weekend

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much to all parents who joined the ‘FoW’s Morning Coffee’ last Tuesday and today. We were glad to meet all of you.

Next week FoW will organize another event, a special seminar on a very important topic that is close to our hearts, ‘Balancing Digital Device Usage for Digital Wellbeing: a Modern Parenting Challenge’. This special event will be held at the Theatre on Wednesday 4 October from 9.00 - 10.30. We have invited 2 speakers from the Electronic Transaction Development Agency (ETDA) and the Department of Mental Health. I believe this seminar will be useful for us, parents in the digital age and it will provide insights on how to properly nurture our kids, the digital natives, in this matter.

Another exciting piece of news is that the date for our state-of-the-art Christmas Fayre has been set. It will be on Saturday 2 December so everybody please mark your calendar. This WCIB signature event promises to be even bigger and grander this year. For the new WCIB members, this is the event that will put a long lasting smile on the face of all our children and it is certainly an event that will show that love is in the air, and happiness is all around.

As it will be groundbreaking, we need a lot of volunteers and a lot of sponsorship. Please let us know if you are willing to contribute in any possible way.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Our Year 6 students had a treat in Music this week as they attended a Songwriting Workshop. We were delighted to welcome Marcel Pusey from Bassistry to deliver the workshop. Bassistry Music was established thirty years ago with an aim to bring professional working musicians' expertise to the classroom.

Here at Wellington College Bangkok we are passionate about art and it's never too early to develop that passion. Last week Year 2 were lucky enough to take part in a wonderful art masterclass with Mr Nick Cadman. The students learned how to use watercolours and explored how two colours blend together.

We are all excited for the first Junior School House challenge of the year - the Paper Aeroplane Competition. Our students spent time yesterday building their aeroplanes. We love the concentration and creativity.

We take a lot of photographs around School every day - but it's always exciting when outside photographers come in to do the children's individual pictures. Our huge thanks to Rembrandt for all their hard work on our Junior School photographs this week.

Last week we began our individual Instrumental lessons for this term and it was such a treat to welcome many of our teachers back - and welcome new teachers in response to popular demand. It was wonderful to see Pep back with us for his sixth year - he has been with us since we opened our doors to students for the very first time!

Whatever your age, it's never too late (or too early) to learn a new instrument. You could discover a passion for life - or just have some fun. Our Music teachers all make lessons and learning great fun. Emphasis is on variety, on sampling different instruments, different areas, different styles.

Art Competition

Mr Cadman, Head of Junior School Art, has the following exciting opportunity!

“I am thrilled to share an exciting opportunity for our aspiring artists at Wellington College International School.

We have enrolled our school in the FORBISA Visual Arts Challenge - 'Spaces in Perspective.' This competition invites students from Year 5 to Year 11 to unleash their creativity by crafting a sketch of a room or chosen space interior or outdoor using any 3D drawing technique. Students have the freedom to enhance their creations with colour, shading, patterns, and textures, employing various mediums, including digital art.

It is important to note that this challenge is to be completed during the students' own time and outside of school hours. The artwork should be created on an A3-sized paper, excluding digital pieces. The deadline for registration with me, Mr. Cadman, is October 6th, 2023, and the final artwork should be submitted by November 3rd, 2023.

Participants are encouraged to explore unique perspectives, highlights, shadows, and positive and negative spaces within their works. Potential ideas for inspiration include a corner of a bedroom, a school library, a children's playground, a street scene, or a view from a window or balcony.

This challenge offers an excellent platform for our students to showcase their artistic talents and perspective. Let's extend our support and encouragement to our young artists as they embark on this exciting creative journey.

Should you have any inquiries or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. n.cadman@wellingtoncollege.ac.th “
