Dear Parents
I was very impressed by the two speakers at the FoW Lecture event this week: Dr Varoth Chotpitayasunondh and Dr Tyn Tawitaranond spoke so eloquently and intelligently, on the important topic of Digital (Human) Wellbeing. I’m so pleased that I missed a meeting to listen to the whole talk!
Please note these Child Protection requirements, for everyone’s safety:
1.Our rule is ‘no photos on campus unless it’s an Event’. Please do follow this rule – it supports the whole community in staying safe. Also, please be thoughtful when you share your photos from events: it is not good practice to share pictures of
other children unless you have permission from their parents.
2.Adults (including parents) must
always use adult toilets and changing rooms. Please
never go into a children’s toilet or changing room whilst on campus. Adults,
including parents, are
not allowed to be unattended on campus during the school day. You are very welcome to use Copenhagen and Café1815, but you must not move further into the campus, unless accompanied by a school member of staff or with prior permission from the school (such as during drop off and collection times).
3.We have these three rules to keep your children safe. Everyone who does work at Wellington has been police checked (expat staff have to go through very extensive international checks), and fully referenced – but parents and other visitors have not, therefore must be accompanied. It’s not that we don’t trust you – we are
not allowed to!
Have a wonderful weekend
Chris

There is so much great space for our Junior School students to enjoy before lessons, at break, at lunch and after the school day ends. We have just refurbished the Hills area so make the experience even better for all the children. Whatever you love doing with your leisure time - running, chasing, ball games, reading, Uno, Chess, just relaxing - there is a space for you. We hope you enjoy every minute!

Busking Fridays are back! Our Junior School students have the chance to perform for their friends once more and last Friday, 29 Sept, saw the first session of this term. Students are invited to play a piece or sing a song which is important to them - it may be their first ever show or they may be seasoned performers! Each time we see singers, violinists, guitarists, saxophonists and many more.

Wellbeing and Internet safety
Following on from the Parent Special Seminar on Wednesday, some tips you may find useful on internet safety. School aged children are starting to be independent online and have more access to the internet unsupervised. Therefore, they can access different channels more easily and able to learn and see different contents that may not be age appropriate. When taking practical internet safety precautions, it is possible to protect your child from potentially harmful or inappropriate content and activities. They are also able to learn skills for using the internet safely on their own.
Tips
-
Create a family media plan and involve your child. Discovering a screen-free area in your house, internet safety rules for not giving out personal information, and using apps that are safe.
-
Make sure you are close by and aware of what your child is doing online.
-
Check that games, YouTube channels, TV series and websites are appropriate for your child by accessing them first.
-
Technology before bed
Using excessive technology before bed can affect your child’s sleep rhythm. The blue lights on the screen coming from the television, computer, iPad, or mobile at night can make it harder to fall asleep and your child may feel tired the next morning. Creating a new bedtime rituals and habits can be helpful –
-
Keep devices out of the bedroom at bedtime
-
Set screen time limits for both common areas and the bedroom
-
Encourage your child to have a different bedtime ritual e.g., reading a book, listening to calm music, having family time.
