Dear Parents
School is about learning, in many ways. High-quality learning is our goal, of course. The quality of learning is high when:
- The outcomes (eg exam results!) are of high quality
- It has structure (even if it is a natural structure)
- It happens in a helpful environment (eg where you can concentrate)
- It’s balanced and complete, not just a little bit of something
- It’s useful, or interesting, or has a purpose.
If these points are what make learning better, we should try to ensure that we follow them. Our teachers have worked on making their lessons like this – but actually, they work pretty well for the whole of life!
This week is a short week, with a holiday tomorrow, and the week after next (ie week beginning Monday 23rd Oct) is our Half Term break. I think students and staff really need these days off: it’s hard work trying to make your learning such high quality!
Have a wonderful weekend
Chris

Thank you very much to everyone who has walked today. The atmosphere has been incredible with all our students putting in so much effort whatever their age! Teachers and parents, too, have been running and walking for the cause and every single baht counts. At the time of this newsletter the total stands at 390,00 THB (with more coming in still) so we send a huge THANK YOU to absolutely every member of the community. There is still time to donate more. Either use the collection boxes in School or hand the money to a teacher. A special thank you to Ms Tanisha McCraw who has organized and coordinated the event. It’s one more commitment to Big Wellington.

We loved celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival in Senior School last week with a Bo Bing session. This is a popular activity during the festival, especially in southern China. It is a lively and social game played with a set of six dice, each of which is marked with different Chinese characters or symbols.

Our lucky Year 4 students have been getting messy in the Art rooms this week. Mr Nick Cadman has been running Print making workshops and the children have all created their own square designs based on European city maps.

Our intrepid Year 11 students battled the elements on their Duke of Edinburgh Silver trip to Khao Yai last weekend. Despite some crazy rain, they all stayed incredibly cheerful - enjoying all that the trip taught them. They enjoyed the hiking, the cooking, the time together to chat and laugh outside the classroom.

In early October, we took 44 of our KS2 students to compete at Brighton College in a friendly Athletics meet. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience a variety of different events and get a taste for friendly competiton! The event was a practice meet to help prepare students for the end of term GBAC competition so there was no need to score and both schools entered into the spirit.
