Dear Parents
A busy week hosting our latest CIS visitors. They saw a lot of great things, and were very impressed – by teachers of course, but also very much by our students, and their high levels of wellbeing in particular! You will not be surprised to hear that. I have enjoyed opening the school up for them to explore; it’s really good to see all the positives through someone else’s eyes, sometimes! Their report will take a while to come, but I will share when it arrives.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the first-ever Festival of Education (EdFest) Thailand, which we are hosting. The Festival began in the UK 15 years ago, and now happens annually across the globe – in the UK, the US, China, and here in Thailand. It’s an event where teachers and education leaders from across the APAC region come together and spend the day developing their knowledge, understanding and skills. I’m also presenting a session, so I’m especially looking forward to it!
Next week, we have a range of other visitors in school, including Iain Henderson (whom many of you know well), along with one of the Governors of Wellington College (UK), as well as some other members of the Wellington College international family, in England and China. We’re quite popular!
Have a wonderful weekend
Chris

It’s the eve of the inaugural Festival of Education Thailand! We are very excited to welcome hundreds of education enthusiasts from across Bangkok and beyond to Wellington College tomorrow.
The inaugural Festival is a landmark event for educators across the region. The Festival is an extension of the esteemed UK-based event and embodies the ethos of Wellington College's commitment to educational excellence. It provides a unique opportunity for teachers to immerse themselves in a day of learning, networking, and professional growth.
This year’s event boasts over 40 sessions, curated to inspire and challenge educators from various backgrounds. The festival keynote, delivered by Jassa Ahluwalia, a British actor, writer, and filmmaker, is a testament to the event's calibre. Jassa's keynote, titled "Both Not Half: Fostering Belonging in a Divided World," draws from his experiences and the viral sensation he created in 2019 with his comedy video speaking Punjabi. His mixed British-Indian heritage and the subsequent #BothNotHalf campaign underscore the festival’s inclusive spirit and focus on fostering a sense of belonging in today's divided world.
Another highlight is Edward Watson from InnerDrive, who will share his expertise on Cognitive Science, and Stuart Kime from Evidence Based Education, who will lead sessions in the Great Teaching Strand. These sessions are a nod to the festival's commitment to evidence-based educational practices and cognitive development in learning.
Teachers from other prestigious international schools in Bangkok, such as Harrow International School Bangkok, Rugby School Thailand, International School Bangkok, and St. Andrews International School, will contribute to a diverse range of sessions. This collaboration across international institutions in Bangkok underscores the festival's aim to build a community of educators who are collectively invested in shaping the future of education.
This collaboration between Wellington College International School Bangkok, Wellington College UK, Wellington College International and Lsect reflects a global partnership in educational excellence. As the Festival of Education takes root in Thailand, it stands as a beacon for professional development and educational innovation. With its diverse sessions, esteemed speakers, and commitment to an inspired learning community, the Festival of Education in Thailand is an event not to be missed by educators who are passionate about their craft and committed to making a difference in the lives of their students.

This year, as always, we have joined as a School to commemorate Remembrance Day in many ways including supporting the Royal British Legion by buying and wearing poppies. Last week we had special assemblies in both Senior and Junior Schools explaining the importance of 11 November, Thailand's role in the wars and all the fallen soldiers.

Last weekend our Wellington swimmers competed in the ISB SwimFest. We were proud to have a very broad age range of students from 6 to 15, all working together and supporting each other as a team. They raced with passion and commitment - showing that the hard work in the pool over the preceding months has not been in vain.

This week all our Junior School students have been working hard with the Giving Tree to support the Karan children of Northen Thailand. Some of our parents and children have filled gift bags for them and every child has created something personal to share. Our Early Years children made Christmas decorations to put in the bag.
