Dear Parents

This week has been quite busy – not just for me, I think. Here are some of my good snapshots.

Working with Mr David Wilson, a Chemistry teacher from Wellington UK, who has been here since Monday. We have a very good relationship with our mother school, as you know, and David, who also oversees the international programmes from the UK, has been hugely useful for our teachers, and some of the students. He’s been doing some guest teaching in the Senior School – and he even got a sudden (and loud) round of applause at the end of one lesson!  Nice work :)

Also over in the Skylight Building, we have a couple of really nice exhibitions in the Atruim right now. The Art department have put out our students’ extraordinary socially-conscious ‘global citizenship’ work on slum housing across the world, and Design Technology have displayed a small fraction of the production work that has gone on this year – some excellently designed and constructed Bluetooth speakers, along with a range of other very well-made items. Do I detect a little competitive rivalry between two brilliant departments?  Excellent!

And over in Junior School, the Front Field hosted some most dynamic displays of achievement from the PE curriculum in our sports day events. It was all-action, and very well organized by the PE department. It’s really good to see our students developing their all-round physical abilities and potential so strongly. And a fine contrast to the beginnings of our school, back in 2018, when I did wonder whether we would ever be able to get our students really active. We have!

Also: Please note that we have a ‘privileged Medical Services’ agreement with Samitivej Srinakarin and Sukhumvit, which gives Wellington parents, students and staff 10% off OP medicine, lab work and x-rays (some restrictions apply), and 10% off inpatient room charges, medicine and lab work (some restrictions apply. Just present your school ID to the hospital. If you would like more details, please let us know.

This weekend sees our Open Morning for prospective families on Saturday, at the same time as competitive football, basketball and robotics off-campus and all our usual onsite weekend activities. This is the rhythm of a good school: everything just keeps on happening!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend

With best wishes

Chris

A Visit from an Old Wellingtonian

Last week we were delighted to welcome another visiting OW (Old Wellingtonian) from our founding school in the UK. Jessica Stephens dropped in to see us as part of a four week trip to Thailand, part of her gap year before attending the University of Bath to study Social Sciences.

Jessica attended TWC from 2018 to 2023 as a proud member of Hopetoun house and holder of a Sports Scholarship and Music Exhibition. Jessica enjoyed every moment of her Wellington experience particularly in those areas of Music and Sport. She was part of Wellington’s first ever Girls’ Football team and also a shining light in the Hockey squad. Her passion for all things musical saw her taking part in the orchestra, Chapel Choir and Concert Band.

Jessica has just been at Wellington College Pune where she spent five months as an intern – key roles including being the Year 4 Teaching Assistant and helping to run the after school activities for students. She loved being part of the official opening ceremony at Pune and also experiencing Diwali.

We look forward to being part of the Intern programme ourselves here in Bangkok. It’s just one more way that our family makes us stronger.

If you’d like to know more about any of our initiatives with Wellington around the world then do get in touch and we’ll tell you more about Summer School, Student Exchange, and our family of schools.

Visit by David Wilson – Wellington College International

This week we were delighted to welcome David Wilson, Academic Director from Wellington College International. David is based in Wellington College in Crowthorne in Berkshire and from there he supports the overseas academic initiatives. He is also instrumental in working on staff and student exchange programmes, Summer School and the peer mentoring by Year 13 students at TWC.

David visits us in Bangkok at least twice in the academic year and this time has been working with our Head of Chemistry, Sally Nunes. He has really enjoyed getting to know students and staff this time and teaching Year 10 and 11 Chemistry lessons. David told us “this is such an exciting time to be here in Bangkok as we prepare for our first IGCSEs and for the opening of the Sixth Form. I’m so impressed by the students in class and I know they will go on to great things! “

We wish our Wellington swimmers the very best of luck as they travel to Phuket to compete at the FOBISIA Swimming Championships. We have some real talent on our squad and they have been working so hard. This competition will be attended by many of the best swimmers in the region and we look forward to swimming against other international schools from across Asia.

On Tuesday our Sports Days continued in Junior School with Years 1 and 2 competing in the Sports Hall in a variety of different events. There was excitement in the air as parents, teachers and children shouted for their Houses. The skills they demonstrated in all disciplines will serve them well as they move through Wellington and join various different teams.

Last week saw the IGCSE Options Fair held in Senior School and we were delighted to welcome all our Year 9 parents and students to hear what the next academic year has in store for them all. After a welcome and introduction from our Assistant Head of Senior School, Ms Kate Salisbury, our Heads of Departments shared the key components of each course with small groups of parents and students.

Well done to our Under 18 Girls Football team who were in action last week in the GBAC Football tournament held at St Andrews 107. Our team is young, with our oldest players only 16. You would never have known as the girls played their hearts out against schools including LFIB, TSIS and SISB.
