Dear Parents

It’s Chinese (lunar) New Year again. This time, it’s the turn of us Dragons. Today, the Junior School experienced an excellent Lion and Dragon Dance performance as part of our annual celebration. Many thanks, as always, to our Mandarin Department for teaching us about these wonderful, ancient traditions.

For our Senior students, Wellington College has been located in such places as Chiang Rai and Chantaburi this week. Curriculum Residentials are always worth a huge amount: not just because of the dynamic learning, or the extra activities, but also because of the human part – interacting in different ways, in different environments, and learning new things about our friends and ourselves.

Today and tomorrow, I am hosting some special guests in the Senior School. They will be meeting staff, and some Y11 students (who are back from Residential for a day of intensive IGCSE exam preparation), and preparing themselves for a particularly rigorous day on Saturday. I’ll have more to tell you about this very soon indeed.

Time is moving fast. One more week till the Half Term holiday (we finish at the end of school next Friday, 16th February, and return on Monday 26th February).

I wish you a peaceful and enjoyable weekend

With best wishes

Chris

We learned so much in Year 4's assembly on Friday as they shared their learning on Ancient Greece. The children introduced the many gods and goddesses and their great strengths. They told us about Apollo, Artemis, Poseidon, Hades and many more. We then heard about the many qualities of the ancient beats - including Medusa, Typhon - the most fearsome monster with a dragon's head and a tail of fire - and Pegasus, the winged horse.

Last Saturday morning over 50 Wellington Under 9 boys and girls headed to Bangkok Patana School to play in a friendly football festival, some of them playing for Wellington for the very first time. The children from the three development teams worked incredibly hard, played with style and learned more about the game and their teammates.

Mr Matthew Waddington's Dahl class just LOVE Maths! Take a look at the engagement in their faces as they start to learn and understand the lesson. The children listen, they learn, they work together, they work with their teachers, they practise and they understand.

Well done to our amazing Under 11 Basketball teams who travelled to Brighton last week. Both teams were on fire, winning numerous games with Boys finishing second and Girls finishing third overall against some very strong teams. Outstanding performances from Margie, Lincoln and Nate who scored A LOT of points!

What a joy to welcome two of our favourite musicians back to Wellington College Bangkok last week. Rhys and Rowena are professional strings players - Rhys on violin and Rowena on cello. They teach and perform amazing concerts around Bangkok as R2.
