Dear Parents 

Staff recruitment in a school is different from most other businesses. We have to work one complete year at a time. That means we are always conscious of what will happen from next August – and we are likely to be interviewing teachers in September for posts that will not start for almost a year!   

It takes a lot of time to do properly – because so many people apply to work here – but finding new staff is one of the more exciting and uplifting parts of my job. I get the chance to speak with so many fascinating people, each with their own vision of how education, and learning, and school culture, could be better and better.   

We are fortunate never to have had the large staff turnover that many new schools experience. This year again, the number of leavers will be low – and the number of additional new staff is pretty high! In Junior School, not so much, since we are close to capacity already.   

But in Senior, we will have another nine extra teachers from August. This is partly because we are opening Year 12, which offers new subjects, such as Psychology, for the first time.  It’s also because students need extra support as they move towards university choices, so we recruit staff specifically dedicated to giving that support. That’s University Advisory staff, Head of Sixth Form, and so on. All brought in simply to ensure our students get everything they need.

And once again this year, there are some really excellent new staff starting in August. A few of them will be popping in sooner than that, just for a visit and – in at least one case – I will try to introduce you (if you’re interested!) when that happens. Details soon :)

I have an enjoyable Saturday and Sunday of interviewing ahead; I hope your weekend brings you as much satisfaction! And good luck to anyone doing the triathlon here. Exhausting in quite a different way.

Dear Parents 

A quick reminder about our Sixth Form Awards. Don’t forget that if you are a Year 11 or Year 10 parent your child qualifies for a Sixth Form Award of 1,000,000 THB across the two years of Sixth Form. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need me to explain further. I’d love to hear from you. 

We will be hosting one more Year 9 Academic Scholarship Day for internal and external candidates (currently in Year 8). If you would like to be part of this and you are currently in Year 8 then please let Mr Nicholls, Dr Panton – or Admissions know as soon as possible.

This week I have set out the Events section differently – in response to some requests to divide Junior School and Senior School dates out separately. I hope it works for you. Let me know!
