Dear Parents
On the back of my business card it says ‘We are Wellington’. These are very important words. Because ‘We’ doesn’t just mean ‘you and I’, or ‘my friends and I’, or ‘people who look like me and I’.
It means
every member of the school. Even people who aren’t your friends, or who have different opinions, or fashion sense, or BMI, or levels of wealth, or family connections, or culture.
‘Belonging’ is very important in a school, partly because we are so different from each other. And when a new family joins (which happens throughout the year), they ‘belong’ immediately. They are immediately the same as us, in that respect. They don’t need to take any time – there’s no ‘probation’ period, or ‘initiation’ process.
And we, a very strong community that is absolutely required to be ‘inclusive’, ‘kind’, ‘respectful’ and so on, have a big responsibility to make them feel an equal part of Wellington. When a new child appears in a class, each student has a responsibility to try to make them feel welcome, and to include them. Not to wait and see, or to blame them for ‘being weird’!
It does not matter how different we are. Everyone belongs equally.
And today is International Women’s Day. I think I am allowed to speak for all in our community (male and female) when I say thank you to every woman and girl at Wellington – students, staff, parents. Thank you for being who you are, and doing what you do. In a world where some cultures still deny sufficient recognition to half their own population, I hope for this school to be always a beacon of equality and unfailing respect. See above: everyone belongs equally!
Have a great weekend.
With best wishes
Chris

FOBISIA Tennis Fri 1, Sat 2 and Sun 3 March
Well done to our amazing team of Punn, Nate and Emily who took on some of the best young tennis players in Asia at the weekend at the Hua Hin Arena.
We congratulate Emily who clinched the FOBISIA championship for Under 10 Girls, demonstrating remarkable patience and resilience. Throughout her journey to the final (with 6 consecutive wins in total), Emily secured victories against formidable opponents such as the top-ranked players from Shrewsbury and Patana and a player from Taiwan. In the championship match, she faced off against the #1 player from DBS, securing a decisive victory with sets ending 4-0, 4-1. Well done Emily!
Well done to Punn who made the Quarter Finals of the Under 10 Boys – despite being only 9 years old and one of the youngest there! He has learned some great lessons and lots of valuable experience.
Nate, the third member of the team, played well in all his games and emerged with great lessons learned and experience gained.
Thank you all for your efforts representing Wellington. As always Thank you to Coach J and all our teachers and parents.
Good luck to Jackfruit, Year 8 who is representing us in the Under 13 FOBISIA tournament this weekend in Hua Hin. |

Football – Mon 4, Tues 5,Weds 6 and Thurs 7 March
We’ve had a lot of our teams out this week. On Monday we hosted Patana here and our Under 15 Girls and Boys fought bravely but both suffered defeats. We learn from every game and the teams were not disheartened.
Our Under 18 teams went to St Andrews 107 on Tuesday and again played well and supported each other but both teams lost to very strong sides.
The Under 18s were in action again the next day at TSIS when the Boys won 3-0.
Thursday saw us host several schools including Verso and the Lycee Francais in a series of well attended games.
We admire the team spirit, the resilience and the hard work of every player. It’s really hard when you may come away with a defeat but win, lose or draw we showed immense pride, integrity and responsibility. Thank you all and thank you to Coach Martin, Mr Liam Watson, Mr Tom Lemon and all the teams and coaches. Your support and that of our parents is amazing |

Under 9 Basketball – Friday 1 March
Last Friday, the Under 9 squad had their first outing of term. With over 20 students proudly representing the school at Brighton College and many parents in attendance, it made for a fantastic afternoon of Basketball. All students were amazing, hard working and supportive - they should be very proud of their performances. The enthusiasm and passion from the players was fantastic to see and we hope the parents enjoyed themselves. We look forward to playing Brighton again in a few weeks time for what we hope will be another enjoyable afternoon of Basketball. |

A-Level Options Fair
It was wonderful to see so many parents here at our first A-Level Options Fair here at Wellington. Students and parents attended a welcome session followed by introductions to each subject. This, along with individual subject sessions, allowed parents and students to make more informed choices for August and the opening of our fantastic new Sixth Form.

Don’t forget that if you are in Year 10 or Year 11 you automatically qualify for a Sixth Form Award of 1,000,000 THB. Come and talk to us in Admissions if you need me to explain further! |
