Dear Parents

Another reminder from me. If you have enrolled a sibling in Pre-Nursery or Nursery, we have sent you a letter to confirm a place. PLEASE can you return the signed letter so we know you still want to take up the place. We are very popular in our Early Years, as you know and we have many children looking for places. You are our priority, of course, but please keep us updated.

Thank you very much for all the referrals – we love seeing your friends and family. Please can we ask you to fill in the referral form before your friends visit. Then we can ensure that you receive your Referral fee in good time.

Keep reading our social media and giving feedback – We spend a lot of time on our photography, film making and storytelling – we’d love to know that you are getting what you want!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Jane

Book Week Donations
We still have lots to share with you from Book Week - and this week we start with a very heartfelt THANK YOU! We are proud to share that the arrow popped off the top of our Book Chart as we reached a total of more than 1160 books donated. Thank you so much to children, parents and teachers for their generosity. And thank you to the very kind and very efficient students who helped sort them out before they were taken to Baupubon School and our new library there. You make us very proud.

Exams

This week we celebrated a momentous occasion in our development. Our IGCSE exams have begun! Congratulations to Laura, Julian and Andre who sat their Spanish Speaking exam on Wednesday. Enormous thanks to our academic team in Senior School, especially Assistant Head of School, Ms Kate Salisbury, for all organisation. Also Thank you to Silvia Paricio for great teaching!

The rest of the IGCSE exams are timetabled over the next few months. We’ll keep you updated with all details. After Songkran we will be opening the fifth floor of the Skylight building which has a dedicated Exam Room and in August we will welcome a Year 12 cohort to start their A-Levels. It is all very exciting!

Golf Day

We are excited to share that the second Wellington Community Golf Day is coming soon! On Friday 3 May we will return to the beautiful Navatanee Golf Course for lunch, golf, dinner and prizes! We'd love all our Wellington golfers to join us. It's going to be a memorable day out - and a chance to have fun (and get competitive) with friends old and new. Along with the committee we'll be joined by Coach Michael Antona who'll be on hand with some tips for success and plenty of encouragement.

We are very grateful to the Wellington Golf Committee for all their hard work making this happen.

Everest Challenge

What are YOU doing in the Songkran break? We know that lots of our community will be off on exciting trips, meeting family and friends and generally relaxing. But spare a thought for Year 6 teacher, Mr Jason Dass, Reception teacher, Mr Jamie Perrin and our Director of Golf, Coach Michael Antona. This intrepid trio are taking on the challenge of Everest (not the summit but still pretty impressive!). They decided to do this for a variety of reasons - including ticking off bucket lists, personal challenges and tackling a long held dream.

The threesome are in training right now - and making space in their bags for three wellyphants. Everest is just a little bit higher than the mound on the new short golf course! We are very much looking forward to seeing the pictures. #WellingtonIndividual #WellingtonIndependent #Everest

Upton Zoo

Today, Upton Zoo had some exciting visitors in the form of 4 Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches and a beautiful Leopard Pied Ball Python. Matty (Year 7) led a short workshop for our Year 2 students, where he talked about the animals’ natural habitats, diets and how to care for them as pets.

A big thank you to Matty for sharing his expertise with our younger students. We would love more visitors to Upton Zoo – if you have a pet that you think would make a good visitor, please contact Ms Upton as she would love to hear from you!

STEAM Week – Recycling Challenge
We hope you are all getting excited about the STEAM Week activities coming up. We’ve now got enough cardboard boxes and plastic bottles, but we still need toilet paper rolls, plastic egg cartons, yoghurt pots, bottle caps, plastic milk cartons and any fabric (old clothes etc.), so please continue to send these in to school. One week to go until the extravaganza!

Reception really pulled out all the stops last Thursday in their Book Week Dress-Up Parade. It was wonderful to see the children's confidence soar as they shared their rather creative costumes with their Junior School friends. We had doctors and police officers, princesses and fairies.

Well done to all our Junior musicians who performed for their friends at the last Busking Friday session. We heard some lovely clear voices and skills on drums, piano and traditional Thai instruments. It takes a lot of courage to stand up like that in front of an audience.

Before the Half-Term break Dove class had an exciting visit to the Master's study. These Reception children had never been before and couldn't wait to look around. They were excited to meet the Master, Mr Chris Nicholls and to ask him questions about what his job entails.

It was amazing to see our Junior School students really getting into the spirit of Book week Dress Up Day. All day long we saw Harry Potter doing Maths, superheroes in PE lessons, doctors and firefighters eating lunch and a host of creative costumes at every turn. We are sharing a very small selection but we'll share more in the newsletter.

Tennis

Our Tennis success continues with success for Jackfruit in the FOBISIA Under 14 competition in Hua Hin last weekend. Jackfruit competed with 36 players in the Under 13 Boys. He beat players from Singapore, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand on his journey to the Final where he defeated a very strong player from Shrewsbury Bangkok.

Last weekend we also saw overall FOBISIA victory for Emily in the Under 10 Girls after some very difficult games. She showed immense promise for one so young.

We are very proud of both Jackfruit and Emily - and of the two young players, Punn and Nate who also worked really hard and will come back even stronger next year. Well done to all our players - and huge thanks to teachers and coaches including Coach J who does a wonderful job nurturing and inspiring these great players. We can't wait to see our Tennis programme develop!

Table Tennis

Wellington had a record number of five students entering the national Table Tennis ranking tournament at Chonburi on 8–10 March. Gabriel competed in both the Under 13 and Under 11 age categories, winning several matches in the older age group before losing in a spirited performance against the Number 2 ranked player in Thailand. Mattie and Ocean also competed in the Under 13 winning their first ever ranking matches before narrow defeats to more experienced competitors. Raphael and Sky both won through to the third round of the Under 9 age group, boosting their own national rankings after three months on the circuit under the tutorship of Coach Pla, Thailand’s Number 1 female competitor.

Netball

On Tuesday our Under 13 friendly netball game against Brighton College was a testament to growth and sportsmanship. Initially, our players were nervous but as the game progressed, they found their rhythm and showcased remarkable teamwork and improvement. Despite Brighton's early lead, our team staged a remarkable comeback, with standout performances from Point and Rada (GA and GS), supported brilliantly by the centre court players.

While Brighton ultimately secured the win, our team demonstrated resilience and improvement throughout the game. A big well done to all of our players and to Director of Sport and Netball Coach, Ms Helen Mathews.

Football

Under 18 Boys

The U18 boys finished their GBAC season with an impressive performance away at Brighton College. The game had lots of ups and downs which created lots of opportunities for our boys to bounce back and they did just that with goals from Nobby (x2) and Chevan. Well done to all the boys this season and those who stepped up when the squad was depleted. We look forward to next year!

Under 13 Boys

On Tuesday our Under 13 boys began their quest for GBAC glory playing VERSO in their opening game.

With goals shared throughout the squad from Charlie, TT, Felix, Flynn and Thomas our boys came away with a well deserved victory. Along with the goals they demonstrated decent sporting behaviour and resilience. Passing patterns, patience in the build up play, supporting one another and teamwork were all on show.

Thank you to the parents and friends who came to support – and as always, thank you to Coach Martin and the teachers for support and inspiration.

Under 15 Boys

Our U15 boys got off to great start in their opening GBAC game against Verso. The boys defended with a high intensity and showed good composure when in possession of the ball. The match had plenty of goals which were shared around the team. A great confidence booster as we await the second game. Thank you to our supporting parents.

Loads more is going on in Football – we can’t update on everything but we’ll give an overview every week here!

Our swimmers are doing us proud at the Martins Cup. We’ll have all the medals and PBs and all the pics next week. Stay tuned!

Basketball

Our U15 Basketballers took centre stage this weekend at the FOBISIA Basketball championships. Boys had a tough draw, and competed terrifically throughout the tournament showing great heart finishing in tenth place. Special mention to Max Da Baets leading the team well and Phoenix making his debut at the tournament.

Our Girls played some outstanding Basketball, and spearheaded by Gaemyui went all the way to the final and lost out to Shrewsbury. Huge credit to our girls this season, who have been crowned GBAC champions and also bagged our first FOBISIA silverware,in what has been an incredible year for the group.

Well done to all our U15 Ballers this weekend.

Our regular House competitions are always incredibly colourful - wherever they are in School. Just after Half Term our Senior School students took to the Front Field for two afternoons of House Football. A great way to let off steam and show your true House spirit! And every time, one House is inching closer to overall victory.
