Dear Parents

I spent most of the last week with a rather brutal case of flu/covid. Apologies for the cancelled meetings!

There are just two more weeks of this term: we finish at 12.00 on Friday 5 April (and start again on Tuesday 23 April). There is a lot to do before then; don’t forget that we have a ‘Meet the new Head of Senior School’ event next Friday morning at 8.00 in the Theatre.  Do come along if you would like to understand a bit more about Mrs Jane Sharp, and her new Sixth Form team as well. It will be both informative and fun.

Have a wonderful weekend.

With best wishes

Chris

STEAM WEEK

Today, Mr Jonathan Yogi, Mr Nick Cadman and Ms Beth Upton launched our very exciting Green STEAM Week! The students have been told about their upcoming projects and they are so excited to begin these in their lessons next week. A few of the projects you can expect to see are plastic bottle planters, recycled bird feeders and bug houses – all of which will be placed around the lagoon area in our beautiful school grounds.  A big thank you to everyone who sent in recycling items which we will be using throughout STEAM week. Congratulations to the winning house of the Recycle Relay – Benson! We are now not collecting these items at school, but please do continue to recycle these items at home.

University Roadshows

Year 10 and Year 11 students recently attended the Canadian university roadshow hosted by Brighton College and led by our local expert Mr Bevin Clarke. They met university reps from 3 different universities - St Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia), University of Guelph (Ontario) and Trent University (Ontario).  As our Sixth Form opens in August, our students will enjoy a comprehensive support programme as they prepare their applications to universities around the world.

Thank you to author Clive PiG who visited us during Book Week. He hosted sessions for Senior School and for our Years 3-6 students. Sessions were highly visual and creative, involving storytelling, vocabulary generation and sharing ideas. Clive is a brilliant presenter and explained how he comes up with all his ideas.

Swimming

Martin’s Cup

Swim Team Wellington - you are amazing!! Over four days at the Martin's Cup this weekend our swimmers competed against the best in Thailand and showed their real strength as individuals and as a strong, supportive team! In an incredible strong field our team took FOURTH place! What a result for our school.

It's impossible to mention everyone as EVERY swimmer played their part. A very few honorable mentions go to Klarnissa (Year 7) who took home a slew of medals including competition records and the Top Girl (13) Award. Leila and Maya shone with Golds in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke - what superstars! Not to be outdone - Skye also took 200m Breaststroke Gold for the Boys in his age group. Our Freestyle and Medley relay teams excelled themselves and amongst our Juniors Mai Oak, Manow, Tara, Valerie, Tawin, Akin, Pei Pei, Q, Aiden and Peach achieved Personal Bests and smashed goals.

Coach James Goddard and his team were beyond delighted and proud. James told us "Every swimmer was a real champion over the last four days. No matter what the final medal count or individual results, each child was a valuable team member. They have all committed to intense, regular training and it all paid off. I can't wait for Nationals to see how we've grown year on year!" We thank K Big for these fantastic pics. See a selection here and then all of them in the link HERE. Thank you to all our parents who provided vocal and passionate support for the team.

Football

Harrow Sevens

Last weekend our Under 11 Girls were invited to participate at Harrow International School in the International 7's tournament. This is a high calibre event with some of the best teams from across Asia! For our girls this was a huge step up but they handled the situation amazingly.

In scorching heat the girls showed unwavering fight and determination and earned the praise from many of the opposing coaches. We know this event will put our girls in good stead for their upcoming GBAC season. Thank you to the many parents and also non- playing teammates who supported the team throughout the weekend, it is truly appreciated.

Under 18 Girls

This week our Under 18 Girls team closed their GBAC league season with a home victory over TSIS.

With goals from Lanna and Kuku the performance summed up these amazing girls perfectly as they battled for every ball, with a work rate second to none. These girls this year really have been nothing short of complete role models for the rest of the school not just in terms of football but sporting role models in general. Their attitude, and teamwork have made them many friends and admirers from opposition teams. A huge congratulations and thank you to Ellie, Jida, Lanna, Bua, Lily, Ella, Proud, Ton Aor, Maple, Nicha and Kuku for all your success this footballing year.

NIST

Rain did not stop play last Saturday for our Under 9 footballers who enjoyed a great morning at NIST with almost 40 children in action. We had A teams and Development teams in action across three pitches with goals aplenty!

Well done to all who played and a huge thank you to our supporting parents. We look forward to the next one on the 27 April at Bangkok Patana.

Tennis

A final post from FOBISIA Tennis to say well done to Nate. He played his heart out for Wellington and won some significant matches against Shrewsbury, Harrow and GIS, coming second in his group. An editing error meant we forgot his picture last week – so here he is and WELL DONE NATE!
