Dear Parents
A very short message this week from me. What a wonderful and wonderfully busy week it has been. I hope that you have had a chance to attend some of the many events that have been going on around school this week.
I have really enjoyed seeing our students perform in the Recitals and have loved introducing the new Senior School team this morning. I've seen princes and princesses galore, young scientists, artists and engineers and, this morning, a procession of Nursery children on wheels!
Well done everyone! I'll be back with a longer message next week as we close another excellent term here at Wellington Bangkok.
Have a lovely, restful weekend

Dear Parents
A few reminders from Admissions and Marketing as we come to the end of term! If you have a child starting in Pre-Nursery in August please sign and return your letters. Our Admissions team are trying to track everyone down so we can offer any unwanted places to our growing Waiting List.
We have shared details of our Sixth Form Award with all parents. If you have any questions about this award – please contact me as soon as you can. I can talk to you about the Award related to your child and to any of your friends and family. We want to ensure our Sixth Form next year is amazing in every way!
We continue to receive referrals from many of you. Thank you so much for this. Come and talk to us or send in your referral form. We thank you all!
We have several Term 3 starters across Senior and Junior School. Please welcome all new families and reach out to them so they can settle in quickly and become part of our Wellington family!
During Songkran you can call Admissions between Mon 8 – Thurs 11 April. Someone will also be in the office. You can also message us directly or email us across the whole break but please understand that it might take some time to reply.
Thank you all for all the great feedback, attending our events and helping us as always throughout this term!

Talented young historians from Brighton, Bromsgrove and Wellington have been competing in Bangkok's first Great Debate competition. The quality of debate was remarkably high with speakers presenting carefully researched responses with real conviction.
Junior Competition (Year 7-9) - Competitors were posed the question 'which historical place deserves greater recognition?'. The responses were wonderfully diverse, with speakers transporting us from Chinese palaces to Turkish villages and beyond. Wellington's Mira Panton (Year 9) won first prize by convincing judges that the women who started industrial action to campaign for better working conditions at the Bryant and May matchstick factory in London in the 19th century deserve greater recognition.
Senior Competition (Year 10-13) - 'Which historical figure deserves greater recognition?' was the set question for our Senior speakers. The audience was captivated by impassioned speeches arguing that figures such as Claudette Colvin, Vittorio Orlando and Pridi Banomyong deserve greater recognition. Wellington's Laura Wang (Year 11) won first prize with her dramatic tale of Soviet submarine commander Vasili Arkhipov whose calm decision making under intense pressure narrowly averted nuclear holocaust during the 13 days of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962.
Thank you so much to Head of Humanities, Mr Paul McCraw and the team for all support. We look forward to more of these events, especially as hosts!

The Fairytale Ball
The Fairytale Ball is one of the highlights of the Reception calendar and today was the day! Our Reception students have enjoyed a day as princes, princesses and a host of other fairytale characters. The children have enjoyed many photo opportunities before the Ball – after the excitement of being greeted by their teachers who all looked exceptionally convincing (Ms Monro – WOW!)
During the Ball they played games and danced and enjoyed a great feast with special fairytale cupcakes. Ms Jayne Starkie, Ms Marie Monro, Ms Katie Wyke and Mr Jamie Perrin made it all very special and really got into the spirit. At the Ball there were some special visitors including Red Riding Hood, Stickman and the Big Bad Wolf.
What a super special day! Thank you to parents and teachers for such enthusiasm and support.

GREEN STEAM WEEK - A Week of Innovation and Environmental Awareness |
|
|
As we draw the curtains on an exciting week filled with creativity, ingenuity, and a commitment to sustainability, we would like to thank all the students who participated in our Green S.T.E.A.M. Week, focused on solving environmental challenges and enhancing our school environment. We would also like to thank parents for their involvement in providing the necessary recycled materials for their children to bring to school during our recent Recycle Relay week.
This week, students from Year 1 to Year 6 embarked on an inspiring journey of problem-solving, centred around sustainability and recycling. It was brilliant to witness the enthusiasm and dedication with which our young learners approached the tasks, using only recycling materials from home to build their projects.
Using the principles of engineering and design thinking, our students delved deep into the heart of environmental issues, asking questions, conducting thorough research, and collaborating to design and create prototypes aimed at addressing these challenges head-on. Year 1 created models of zoos to house endangered animals native to Thailand, Year 2 built bug hotels, Year 3 made bird houses, Year 4 made prototypes of water collection systems, Year 5 designed recycled shoes and Year 6 created planters to put up in our school grounds.
Throughout the week, students honed their technical skills and cultivated a deeper appreciation for the environment. They learned the value of critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration – essential skills that will serve them well in their academic journey and beyond.
Once again, we extend our gratitude to all the teachers, students and parents who contributed to making this week a resounding success. Together, we have taken meaningful steps towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
From the Junior School S.T.E.A.M Team (Mr Nick Cadman, Mr Jonathan Yogi, Ms Beth Upton)

What a special week we have had for Wellington musicians. There is a real passion for performance at Wellington and students take their practice very seriously. Curricular and extra-curricular lessons here have helped students prepare to take centre stage. Thursday saw Recitals across School from the youngest to the most experienced. The flower festooned theatre stage, complete with grand piano was the setting for the work of a huge variety of composers from many genres. Today has seen the Scholars Recital with exceptional performances by Neya, Suri, Yuri, Matt, Garm, Ete, Petch, Puifai and Ingwa. Lots more pictures coming soon but here are a few tasters!

Well done to our Under 13 Netball team who competed in their first tournament of the year on Saturday, hosted by Brighton College. Ivy, Ava, Uni, Grace, Point, Rada, Hazon, Nubdao, Preme & Proud did an incredible job and won 3 out of their 6 games against some tough competition, including Shrewsbury, Patana, Bangkok Prep & Brighton.
We hope to continue to grow Netball at Wellington with lots more fixtures in Term 3. This team are just going to get better!
A big thank you for Brighton for hosting and, as always, thank you to our teachers and PE staff for great coaching and to parents for their support!

GALAXY FOOTBALL ACADEMY PARTNERSHIP
Wellington College Bangkok is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Bangkok Galaxy to deliver its Football Programme from grass roots to competitive excellence. The Bangkok Galaxy professional coaches will bring their market leading expertise to the students of Wellington from August 2024.
The focus will be on wide participation through the developmental WEX programme, pathways to represent the School in the A and B Wellington Football Squads, and excellence through the launch of an after school Academy Programme. Students selected in the A and B School Teams will be able to train for the entire academic year with no cost to parents in future. For the highly talented athlete, students who participate in many different sports at Wellington and find there are calendar clashes, and children who simply hunger for more and more Football, the Bangkok Galaxy Academy Programme will operate daily at the Wellington Campus from 17.15 until 18.30, with students training to participate in the Sunday Evolution League, which will also be held on our two high class football grass pitches.
Director of Sport, Helen Mathews explains “ It’s a really exciting milestone. Through state-of-the-art AI technology, we will provide bespoke player data tracking and support, allowing our young players to analyse and enhance their performance over time. Moreover, the introduction of year-round, no-cost training opportunities for both A and B teams underscores our dedication to nurturing football excellence.“
Valentin Reaud, Club President of Galaxy shares their vision “Our aim is to not only cultivate technical proficiency and tactical acumen but also to instill a deep passion for the game within every student. Through structured training sessions and personalized guidance, we aspire to unlock the full potential of each player”
Dr Peter Church, Bursar, whose WEX team will coordinate the Bangkok Galaxy Academy Programme, added: ‘The opportunity to bring to Wellington an established Academy structure, including a flourishing Sunday League Programme, was a key factor in the decision to appoint Bangkok Galaxy. The after school programme will provide extensive opportunities for our students to play with footballers from other schools in an environment that will enhance the development of skills and the enjoyment of “the beautiful game”. It will be particularly invaluable for Wellington students, who play many different sports and struggle to balance a busy itinerary, by providing access to a high-quality Football programme at a convenient time’.

Cricket
Our cricketers have also been busy, wrapping up another wonderful term! The final Cricket session of Lent Term was an opportunity to recognise service and to celebrate success. The club captains of the Wellington College Cheetahs, Sky (Year 7) and George (Year 6), presented coaches Mr Jason Dass and Mr Saiju Mammen with a gift for completing two years of coaching for the Under 12’s Cricket Squad.
Medals were then presented by Dr Peter Church (Head of Cricket) to the top batters for the academic year, with the Gold Medal awarded to Gabriel (Year 5), Felix (Year 7) as runner-up, and Mike (Year 7) in third place. Medals were also presented to the best bowlers with Nate (Year 5) winning Gold, Jade (Year 6) awarded Silver, and Doln (Year 6) in Bronze. An exciting Summer Term beckons with the highlight of the annual Cricket Sixes Festival to be hosted by Wellington on Wednesday 19 June.
