Dear Parents

It’s been a very busy week here, with major tournaments in both football and swimming; along with 10 separate IGCSE exams; increasingly intense rehearsals for next week’s Y3-6 production (‘Dragon Days’); preparations across the school for our Wellington College annual inspection next week; and all the usual stuff that goes into five days of school. Every year at this point, we start looking towards the end of term – and realising how much we still want to do before 28 June!

My COBIS conference in London over the weekend was very interesting. I spent a lot of time in meetings and presentations on AI in education. Not so much ‘how can we stop students cheating?’ – which is quite easy (don’t set them homework that an AI can do) – but deeper stuff on, for example, how today’s young people use AIs, which includes getting advice on friendship issues (which may be very bad advice).

I was also introduced to the idea of a ‘virtual meeting’, with all-AI members, where you can test your proposals before a real meeting takes place. I will be encouraging people to use this before meeting with me in future!!

It’s very important to get away occasionally, to clear your head and see things from a different perspective. But I was very happy to be back in school on Tuesday morning, to see all the smiling faces of your children!

Enjoy the weekend – I’ve brought the English weather back with me, so umbrellas may be required :)

With best wishes

Chris

Summer Formal Tickets

The biggest event of the Senior School year is coming soon! It’s almost time for the Summer Formal, held again this year at the Grand Hyatt Erawan. We will be taking over their Residence for an evening of fun for our Year 9, 10 and 11 students. The students will enjoy a delicious buffet, dancing, chatting and lots of fun. There will, of course, be some incredible photography opportunities and we’ll have lots to share with you all.

Please contact Ms Sally Nunes in Senior School to secure your ticket. Tickets cost 1500 THB and the evening is also supported by School and Friends of Wellington.

Do let us know if you have any ideas to share. We want everyone to have the best night ever!

Rembrandt Picture Sessions

We want to say a big thank you to Rembrandt for their help with our Class and Whole School photos this year. We have grown so much in the last six years that this is no small task! We share a fun little taster here of a few of our classes but you can order pictures - along with the family photos - in the Junior School Lobby next Monday and Tuesday - 20 and 21 May. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Golf Day Update and Sponsorship

We are delighted to share an update on our recent Golf Day from Kittipong Chaiwatanasirikul (K Boyy). “My team (K. Jeab, K. Tong, K. Dome, K. Eak, K. Ruj) and I  arranged with the Headmaster of Banmuangprong School for the presentation of the donation at their school.

We are delighted to inform the Wellington community that we managed to raise 123,456.78 THB (after all expenses) during our Wellington Community Golf Day 2024. We also received further donations from other non-golfing parents at Wellington, local businesses, friends and families outside Wellington Community. This was coordinated by K Ying (Haru’s mother Year 6). A special credit to her for raising another 111,312.00 THB.

Last but not least, all the students in Banmuangprong School around 82 students will receive free school socks from Carson (Garment Manufacturer) presented by K Gap (Kirie’s father Year 5). The Headmaster of Banmuangprong School will use this donation to replace all the broken fans in the class rooms, buy a new drinking water tank, repair a damaged school roof and much more.

The results from our Wellington Community Golf Day 2024 are well beyond our expectations. Our Golf community is more than just friendship now. I feel like we are one big family. Thanks Mr. Chris Nicholls, Coach Michael Antona and Jane Forster in Marketing for all support and for allowing us to host such an event for a good cause.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. Let’s make 2025 even better!“

Thank you from all of us for your participation and support.

Wellington Colleges Exchange

We are very proud to be a member of the Wellington family of schools. There are so many benefits to all our students across each year. We are visited by teachers, leaders and members of The Wellington College community at different times. Our community visit the UK for Summer School, Professional Development and more. We have Peer Mentoring in Senior School and lots of other projects in development.

We are also in our second year of Student Exchange and our Year 10 students Chevan and GaemYui are currently being hosted in the UK by students, Izzy and Rupert. We hear there are loads of great things going on across these two weeks – days are spent studying, taking part in games, supporting and generally living life as a Wellingtonian in Crowthorne. They are also going on trips with their host families and experiencing life in a boarding house!

The Exchange programme 2024-25 is open to Year 9 students

GBAC All Stars

On Saturday 11 May, we were proud to host the annual GBAC All-Star Football fixture here at Wellington on our lovely Front Field. Select players from schools within the conference, chosen based on their playing ability and outstanding attitude, come together to form representative teams. The schools from the East and West of Bangkok compete against each other in this prestigious event.

Being chosen for this fixture is testament to the hard work and dedication players have invested in the sport. We would like to congratulate our following players for being selected - Luka, Miki, Peppin, William, Jonathan, Ton Aor, Maple, Lanna, Poon, Nobby and Kim. Well done to Nobby who was also nominated Most Valuable Player of the Under 18 boys game.

It was great to see so many of our parents here to support our amazing players. Thank you, as always, to Ms Helen Mathews, Director of Sports and all her team. We really appreciate all that you do!

U13 Girls – Basketball vs St.Andrews

This week the U13 Girls hosted St Andrews in a great friendly match which proved an opportunity for our players to challenge themselves against a very strong side. Some of our girls were competing for the first time and acquitted themselves well. They developed confidence as the game went on and although they ultimately lost the game they represented our Wellington values at all times.

Thank you Coach David and all the team!
