Dear Parents

There are only 15 school days left before the year comes to a close. And there is so much still to do – it simply gets busier and busier!

  • Tomorrow (Saturday), we host a big Chess tournament.
  • All next week, the Bangkok Games, a Junior School sports festival featuring football, basketball, tennis, athletics, swimming, netball and rugby, jointly organized and hosted this year by Shrewsbury, Wellington, Bangkok Patana, Harrow, Denla British School, and King’s. We only created this event just before Covid, but it has grown really strongly – and is both very competitive and great fun!
  • IGCSE exams continue in Senior School.
  • Rehearsals for The Little Shop of Horrors, this year’s Senior School musical (Thursday 20 June, 18.30 start – don’t miss it), are now getting very serious(!).
  • A Wellington College Governor is visiting on Wednesday.
  • Nursery students are off to the Sealife Centre.
  • There’s more Table Tennis action next Saturday.
  • And the always-competitive Cricket fixture vs the British Club team the following day (presumably our Bursar will have a day off sooner or later…).
  • There’s also our Upper School Summer Formal at the Grand Hyatt.

Plus there will be all the usual lessons, activities, enrichments, etc :)

With best wishes

Chris

Give Old Shirts New Life!

Join us in making a difference! If you have any old Junior WCIB polo shirts (the blue ones) lying around, we'd love for you to donate them at the Junior Reception Desk. We'll be repurposing them into the new version of the iconic Wellyphant for a good cause in collaboration with Second Chance Bangkok.

During school breaks, these shirts will be given to talented artisans to work their magic.

It's not just about recycling fabric - it's about giving people a second chance at a fulfilling career!

Under 11 Boys and Girls Basketball v Regents

The Under 11 boys had an excellent showing last week in a friendly match against Regent's. Both teams started out in a tight contest that saw fantastic defense and rebounding on both sides. Our Wellington boys in the second half displayed an array of offensive transition passing and execution that led to some incredible plays. It was a great overall performance from our boys.

Under 11 girls also played a friendly match against regents.  The girls playing their first friendly in some time displayed gret transition defense and improved overall team passing. The girls were able to generate a plethora of scoring opportunities via their spacing and passing. The girls gave an incredible effort that saw all members of the team play considerable minutes and make meaningful contributions.

Thank you as always to Coach David, Mr Sam De Prisco and all our teachers and coaches.

Thailand Womens Basketball 3x3

We have been honoured to have the Thailand Womens Basketball team training at Wellington over the last few months. Here’s a little update on how they are getting on by Coach David!

Recently, the Thailand women's 3x3 team embarked on a nine day trip to China where they competed in two tournaments hosted in the cities of Weifang and Rizhao. The women were competing against WCBA teams and Chinese national teams during their duration of their stay. In unprecedented success, our Thai team finished with a record of 7-4 playing against the elite teams of China. China is presently ranked second according to the world rankings of FIBA. Our women were the only team to make the finals of both competitions. The women did an incredible job representing our team, organization, country and were beloved by the fans there despite competing against their national heroes.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the huge benefit and impact Wellington had on our success by providing the women a wonderful and isolated training facility in which they were able to prepare and focus on the incredibly challenging task of competing against some of the world's most elite players. Coach David led the team and showed that students at Wellington have access to a world class coaching level by leading Thailand presently ranked 65th in the world to such a competitive result against China, which ranks below only The United States.

Finally we have to give the lion’s share of the credit to our amazing players who worked extremely hard in preparing for this event and battled on the court with full effort and cohesion as a team. Several of the girls are also regular assistant coaches at Wellington and they certainly displayed the type of character and competitive spirit we strive to instill with our student athletes at Wellington.

Girls Football Tournament at Wellington

On Weds 5 June we were delighted to host the GBAC Under 11 Girls’ Football Tournament. The Front Field was bustling from early morning as we welcomed schools from across Bangkok including our neighbours, Brighton, St Andrews and Amnuay Silpa

Our girls got through the group stage undefeated and scored a number of goals without conceding any! After the knockout stages, they finished in a well deserved Runner Up position.

Thank you to all our parents – and visiting parents – who added to the lively atmosphere. As always we thank Coach Martin and all our PE department for great support, inspiration and organization.

Football Vs St Andrews 107

Our Under 15 Girls yesterday finished a long and intense season with a home fixture against St Andrews 107. Both sides gave their all to the game and it was a fairly even battle. Well done to all our girls – and a special mention to Miki, Peppin and Maya who worked tirelessly in midfield. Thank you Coach Martin!

Our Under 15 boys also finished their GBAC season with a very competitive game with S107. The team have improved tremendous amounts over the course of the season and it was great to reflect on our favourite moments in a debrief led by our captain Chevan.

Thank you to Mr Liam Watson and all the teachers and coaches who have helped and supported!
