Dear Parents
And welcome to the seventh year of Wellington College Bangkok!
Right at the end of the summer holidays, our new Year 12 students received their IGCSE results – the school’s first-ever. I’m very pleased to be able to tell you that they are very good indeed. There were 37 students in the group, and they managed:
- A whopping 75 A*/A grades in Maths and Sciences alone!
- Across all subjects, we had twice as many A*/A grades as any other grade.
- Better than 1 out of every 4 grades was A*.
It’s very important to understand that IGCSEs are not just about top grades, though. The best measure of a really successful school is the complete set of outcomes for each individual, not just the top performers. The student who gets a B when their likely score was a C: that’s as much of a win as an A* would be for another. Overall, with 97% A*-C grades, our students across the full range have done very, very well. And they are now perfectly set up for success in A-levels, where you simply have to choose your best three or four subjects!

A lot else has happened since the end of June, too.
- The Junior playground has been given a big new set of structures to support our children’s development of balance, agility and strength. There’s also a large chess board there, for the more cerebral.
- We also have a dynamic new Early Years activity room, including mini climbing walls and much else besides.
- The new tennis courts are a few days from completion, over between the Skylight and Crowthorne buildings. These will feature stadium seating, both for the courts and for the South Field behind, and floodlighting for evening use.
- The Crowthorne Building itself is also moving very fast. We have already installed the Skybridge that will link it across the 4th Floor with the Skylight. Look out for more updates on that.
And – I know quite a few of you have asked – our Junior Dining Hall will be fitted with air conditioning during the Christmas holidays, in December. This will help a lot in the bad-air season, as well as the Hot season that follows it.
Let’s have a great year!
With best wishes
Chris

Welcome Back!
We are so excited to be back for the 2024-25 academic year and to be part of a community which is stronger than ever. This August we have welcomed almost 190 new students which means a lot of new families! We know that everyone will help each other but for all new families – if you need anything at all then please don’t hesitate to ask any of us –
- Admissions – Jane, Ren, Tangmo, Larn and Pla
- Community Liaison – Nik
- Registrar – Kratai
- Marketing (including Wellington News) – Mai, Joy, Joann, Boom, Ploy
- Stars of Wellington – Mai
We thank all of you for referring your friends and bringing them to Wellington. Please continue to do this – it makes us a very friendly place to be. As I always say, I LOVE giving the referral discount!
Please follow us on all our social media accounts and like and share posts that appeal. You can find out all our news and see the latest pics there.
Can I ask you to get in touch with Admissions if you would like to register a sibling for next year – particularly in Pre-Nursery. We have limited availability and Early Years gets full very quickly. We will be processing our applications for Pre-Nursery earlier this year – probably from October onwards so we’d like to make sure we prioritise our families.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Jane

Sixth Form
As you all know we opened our Sixth Form yesterday and our brand new Year 12 students are now starting their A-Level courses. We are very proud to have such a vibrant, happy, successful group of Sixth Formers. Admissions are very happy to talk to anyone looking for the best A-Level programme in Bangkok – and, of course, new starters in August 2024 and 2025 are eligible for our Sixth Form Award. Get in touch with us! |

Welcome New Wellington Teachers
One of the lovely things about coming back to school at the start of a year is meeting all our new teachers. Over the last few weeks they have been learning all about Wellington and our values and ethos. They have been planning and organizing and preparing to meet your children. We are very happy to welcome this new cohort and we hope that they all settle into their new lives in Thailand and have a fabulous year ahead. |

Welcome Back to All Staff
This week we had a VERY special moment during our whole school INSET sessions when we gathered together our 260+ strong team – teachers, ALTs, support staff – for a very special picture. If you need to know anything at all about Wellington – just ask any one of us! We’ll be sharing lots of team pics over the next few weeks so you get to know not just where your child is today – but who will be teaching them over the next few years! |

Founders’ Hall Opening
Please take a look at our Founders’ Hall in the Theatre Lobby. As well as honouring our first 100 families, this beautifully designed space is an opportunity to learn about the history of the Duke of Wellington and the school founded in his honour in Crowthorne in England. This opening coincides with our Six Year Anniversary and the start of a seventh year.
We were delighted to welcome Helen Kavanagh and Iain Henderson to our special opening last Tuesday where we celebrated and reminisced with the Board, the Founding Master, the original Founder Families. The speeches by our Board were particularly moving. We would love you to come and take a look at the splendid displays highlighting the tradition and history of the school. There are some artifacts from Wellington which were personally selected by the Master from the Wellington Archives. They are fascinating and tell individual, important stories.
We hope you love it – do let us know |
