Dear Parents
Last week I shared with you some information about IGCSE results. I can add: across the whole group, our students’ average grade is A. And we now have some data from the UK to compare with:
- Our A*/A percentage is close to 3x the average for England, and double the average for London (by far the highest-performing area in the country)
- The UK’s average for A*-C grades is 67%, where ours is 97% (as I reported last week).
That’s a very good international benchmark. It is (of course) true that the UK private schools tend to have much higher results than the national average – but the biggest reason for that is the level of ability of the students they accept. If you only take A*-type students, you will get A*-type results. That, in itself, is not an indicator of the quality of education – only of the ‘raw material’.
As a measure of school quality (or life prospects), exam results are useful but not sufficient. Wellington College Bangkok now does have very good results – but we offer so much more than just that.
Traffic again. I observed traffic in the Junior School car park and on the road this morning. Quite a few parents have asked me to post a staff member on the road, to direct traffic. I know some schools do this, but it is not correct: members of the public should not direct traffic simply because it is not safe to do so.
I have discussed my findings from this morning with our teams and I believe we can make some clear and obvious changes that should help everyone. Look out for one or two new things from next week!
I hope you have a great weekend – see you on Monday, if not before.
With best wishes
Chris

Early Years – Settling In and Next Year
We are excited to introduce you to our Early Years team. Our youngest children could not be in safer or kinder hands. All twelve classes (four each in Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception) come under the direction of our wonderful Head of Early Years, Ms Charlotte Baxendale. Ms Baxendale and the team have been running workshops for our parents and they are all very happy to talk to you at any time and explain our philosophy and ethos. It’s an amazing place to start your child’s journey.
Whichever class your child is in, there is a slightly different starting procedure. These are designed to ensure that every child has the most comfortable beginning here at Wellington.
If you have a sibling who would like to start in Pre-Nursery (or in any other year) in August 2025 then please let us know as soon as possible. You can contact Admissions: admissions@wellingtoncollege.ac.th

Sixth Form Life
It’s exciting to see our Sixth Formers settling in to life here in Year 12. Their courses are underway, they are beginning their extra activities, meeting with Head of Sixth Form, Mr Scott Colton and University Guidance Counselor, Mr Bevin Clark and generally embracing all that their timetables offer from the first class of the day to home time.
We’ll keep you up to date on all that they achieve. |

Welly Walk
Dear Parents,
I am thrilled to let you know about our second annual ‘Welly Walk’ – a fundraising charity walk held on-site. This year we will be supporting 4 charities – The Chaiyapruk Foundation, The Giving tree, Save elephant and Second Chance Bangkok.
The event will take place on Wednesday 11 September. There will be a ‘sunrise session’ from 06.00– 06.45, and ALL parents and students are welcome to join for this session. Please note, we will provide breakfast for the students attending the Sunrise Session at 6.50am.
The children will be aiming to complete as many laps of our site as possible throughout the day. They will be asking you, your family and your friends for sponsorship. You can sponsor them per lap, e.g.100 THB per lap. Or you can pledge a total amount e.g. 500 THB for the day no matter how many laps they complete.
The children will have a week to collect their money. Please pass all sponsorship money in cash, in an envelope to your child’s house tutor or class teacher.
We are really looking forward to this event, and we hope you can support your child raise money for our chosen charities.
If you would like to join the Sunrise Session at 6:00am, please complete the form below (by Friday 6 September) to mark your attendance.

Wellington Sports Video
Here at Wellington College Bangkok we believe that sports are important. We play football, basketball, tennis and so much more. We play as teams and we play as individuals. We play for fun and we play in top level international competitions. We believe that every student should follow their passions and be the very best that they can be – whatever their age and stage. Here at Wellington we believe that every student is a champion.
Take a look at just a handful of the sporting opportunities here at Wellington College Bangkok. We hope you like our new video as much as we do. |
