Dear Parents
On Monday, we will open the new tennis courts (next to the Skylight Building and South Field). With professional-level surface, floodlighting, and covered bleacher seating, this is a really exciting development. You may have noticed that the roof is not yet in place. After last year’s difficulties with construction, we had to redesign the structure and change contractors. This caused a delay. As soon as I have a confirmed date for roof installation, I will let you know.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness regarding traffic during these busy first couple of weeks of the school year. Whilst we worked on smoothing the flow of cars in the car parks, the public road is a different matter. You may have noticed the excellent professional assistance now being given to us on the road at the Junior School entrance every morning, which really helps.
Somebody asked me this week if our school values are only for the students, or for adults as well. Strange question – of course they are for everyone. I believe strongly in the importance of following your values honestly and sincerely. So I hope you (along with your children) have a great weekend, full of respect, integrity, courage, kindness and responsibility!
With best wishes
Chris

Meet our EAL Team
Here at Wellington, we are immensely proud of the value that the whole community puts on the English language. English is the language of the classroom, the corridor and the playground. And it works! Our IGCSE results this year were the envy of most schools in the UK. We aim for every child to speak native level English by the time they sit their external exams (or long before!) Children join us at every stage in their language development and a few may need extra support along the way. We are very lucky to have an excellent EAL Support team, directed by Head of EAL, Andrew McCarthy who work with our students as they progress through school. We got them all together at the start of term! What a talented and friendly team they are!

Meet our Chinese Teaching Team
Our Mandarin lessons begin early here at Wellington, with even our tiny Nursery students enjoying their lessons! Many of our students go on to study Mandarin at IGCSE and now A-Level and all students above Year 5 have the option to choose Mandarin – whatever their previous experience of the language. We are grateful to Ms Chunzi (Tina) Tian and her team for their hard work, commitment and inspirational teaching. Get in touch to find out more.

Welly Walk
Please see an update from Ms McCraw for next week’s Welly Walk. Don’t miss out! Join our Sunrise Session and set the pace for the day!
On Wednesday 11 September the annual Welly Walk will take place. On this day your child must wear PE kit. The event is aimed at raising money for our chosen charities. Your child will be bringing home a sponsorship form, please help them find sponsors by asking family, friends and neighbours to donate. All money raised must be returned to the class teacher/form tutor by Wednesday 18 September.
The day will start with a sunrise session from 06.00 - 06.45, which everyone is welcome to attend. If you do wish to attend please fill in this form https://forms.office.com/r/Kgs7fCa0Tm before 10pm tonight to make sure breakfast is provided for your child.
If it is raining on the day we will sadly have to postpone. Any questions, please contact Ms McCraw - T.McCraw@wellingtoncollege.ac.th

Trash Lucky
Please join us in an important recycling initiative spearheaded by Ms Beth Upton, Head of Junior School Science – and the Green Team! See below for details.
We are thrilled to announce that we now have our very own Wellington College Trash Lucky recycling bins installed in the Senior School car park. Trash Lucky is a Thailand-based recycling programme which accepts plastic, glass, paper and metal. Bring in your recycling, and every month there are prizes to be won! To get started, add Trash Lucky on LINE: @trashlucky and click “Register”.
Select your “Community Group” as Wellington College and you are ready to go! Please go to this link to find out more about how to package your recyclables before bringing them into school: Growing Green Starter Kit - School Recycling Program - Trash Lucky.
Note: Trash Lucky will not accept any items that are not packaged correctly, so please read the information carefully. A big thank you to last year’s Eco-Committee for their hard work to set this up.
Please do reach out to Ms Beth Upton or Mr Joel Holliday if you have any questions. Happy Recycling!

Notice From Marketing
We are excited to have our very talented friends from Christian Photography working with us in school next week. As part of these sessions, we will be taking lots of pictures and some film of children from Pre-Nursery to Sixth Form with a focus on our Year 12 students. These will be used in a variety of marketing platforms including our website, publications, newsletters, ads and social media.
We will be mixing both staged and candid photography and we hope to feature as many of our students as possible. If you would prefer your child NOT to be part of these sessions then please let me know (J.forster@wellingtoncollege.ac.th)

Check Ins
Thank you to everyone who last week took part in all our Check Ins for many different sports. We have now selected squads and teams and look forward to a wonderful sporting year ahead. Places in squads are always limited and we know that means some disappointed children. We aim to support and grow each child’s talent or passion, whatever their starting point. There are loads of opportunities to play, to enjoy and to improve. Good luck to you all this year!
