Dear Parents

November is coming. Many things happen in November. We host the Festival of Education (EdFest), a major event for teachers and education professionals around the region, on Saturday 9th. There are now annual Festivals of Education in England (at Wellington – a massive 2-day event), China, the US and here.

We are delighted to be welcoming, amongst many others, Sir Anthony Seldon to our EdFest this year. Sir Anthony was the 14th Master of Wellington, the one who decided to create our international family of schools – so we all have a lot to thank him for! He is the modern ‘father of Wellington’, having made the school one of the most exciting, forward-thinking and pioneering in the world. He has also written a number of excellent biographies of British Prime Ministers, including Tony Blair, Boris Johnson and even Liz Truss, and is Historical Advisor to 10 Downing Street. A truly extraordinary Wellingtonian! You may see him around school either on Friday 8th or Monday 11th – do say hello!

Of course there is also Loy Krathong coming up, plus all the Christmas concerts, then it’s December and the Christmas Fayre, Winter Wonderlands, etc etc.

Do also look out for our many Parent Workshops throughout the year. We understand that not everyone can attend, but they are very useful (for staff as well as parents), and present good opportunities to chat with teachers about what we do (and why).

With best wishes
Chris

Auditions for the Christmas Carnival Showcase

We are so proud of every single child who took part in the auditions for a spot at our amazing Christmas Carnival. The auditions were held on Wednesday with a limited number of spaces to try out for the chance to perform on Sat 7 Dec. Categories included Dance, Vocal, Instrumental and Band and all age groups were involved. There were students from Nursery all the way up to Year 12. It takes a huge amount of courage to stand up on stage like this and the judges were so impressed with what they saw.

We are very grateful to the parents of our Christmas Fayre Committee who worked so hard to make this happen. Thank you so much to K Amm, K Michael, K Flora, K Oui, K Tum, K Yong and the rest of the team. You are the BEST! Results will be out very soon!

Individual Photographs From Rembrandt

You will remember that a few weeks ago our children had their individual photo sessions with our friends from Rembrandt. Next week they will be bringing home their sample photos (these will be given out by class teachers).

We hope you love them. Please take a good look and decide which ones you want and fill in the order form. You can return the form to Rembrandt at tables in the JS and SS lobbies 4-6 November.

Please let us know if you have any queries.

University Visits

Don’t forget that we have an extensive programme of university visits organized by our University Guidance Counselor, Bevin Clark and the team in the Senior School. On Wednesday, Computer Science teacher, Dax Ward encouraged our Years 10-12 to attend a fascinating presentation by Professor Dr Falconer from Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland.

The presentation focused on careers and study paths in Game Technologies and Creative Industries. This university is at the forefront of innovation, and technical skill – offering some cutting-edge programmes tailored to the fast-evolving world of games and creative tech.

This popular presentation definitely opened our students’ eyes to greater possibilities and pathways.

We have workshops, seminars, presentations and informal drop-ins going on regularly up in our Sixth Form. Get in touch with Mr Clark if you’d like to know more – parents and students alike!

Donate Uniform for Second Chance

Please help us by donating any second hand uniform to a very good cause. Ms Tanisha McCraw and the Junior School service team are working with Second Chance Bangkok to create gifts, toys and merchandise from Wellington uniforms! Just drop the uniform at the Junior School Lobby and we will make sure it is put to good use.

Professional Development For Teachers

Our teachers, leaders and staff are always committed to developing themselves, to keeping up to date with new ideas and ensuring that we are always au fait with best practice. Earlier this week, we were delighted to host a two-day event, led by Matthew Savage, that brought together colleagues from across the Wellington College International community. Matthew, the architect of The Mona Lisa Effect®, is a renowned international education consultant who works with teachers and leaders across the world to explore the connections between assessment, wellbeing and DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging) through the lens of different forms of data.

Our leaders were challenged to think about what we know about our school community and what ‘masks’ people might be wearing to help us better understand the culture and climate of our school. As a collective our Wellington leaders examined what it meant to be seen, be heard, be known and to belong at our schools and the actions we can take to positively impact the needs of all.

Please get in touch with Mr Stewart Findlay or Ms Gill Elrick to find out more.

Dr Scott Sneddon made the most of the weather before Half Term to take his Chemistry class outside. The Year 10 students (and some interested Juniors) watched as he demonstrated the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide using a potassium iodide solid catalyst.

Swimming – Puppy Cup

Our youngest swimmers recently competed in the Puppy Cup. This was a wonderful opportunity for the youngsters to gain experience and confidence and they all did us proud. This young squad will grow and develop and this may have been the first tournament for some of them – but it won’t be the last!
