Dear Parents
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the new Friends of Wellington committee this week – many of them in character, I mean costume :) for Hallowe’en. The original Committee, chaired so masterfully by Khun Notachard, created an exceptional model for our school: dynamic, supportive, and great fun. Now we move forward with some really exciting plans for the next steps!
The team will be introduced to everyone at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 7 December (don’t forget to come to the Fayre – indubitably the Greatest Fayre on Earth!)
I was in a Junior School classroom this week and the students were doing some writing. I could tell as soon as I walked in that they were fully engaged – there’s a special kind of atmosphere that comes over a class when that happens. After a few minutes, the teacher announced that it was the end of the lesson, and they’d have to stop. ‘Nooo!’ came the cry. ‘Can’t we just carry on? We don’t want to stop!’
This kind of thing
With best wishes
Chris

Year 10 Student Exchange with The Wellington College, England
We are very lucky to belong to such a strong family of Wellington schools around the world. This gives us access to so many opportunities - including the Year 10 Student Exchange Programme with our founding school in England, The Wellington College.
This week we have welcomed four students to join us here in Bangkok for a full and varied programme of lessons, activities, expeditions and even the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze adventure next week! They started with a welcome from our Master, Mr Chris Nicholls before joining IGCSE lessons with their new friends. Yesterday they also took part in Halloween Dress Up!
We thank our host families of students Dew, Miki, Ploen and Sainahm for their generosity welcoming Arlo, Francesca, Sophie and Edie. Our students can't wait to visit the UK and see how it's done there!

We celebrated Halloween here at Wellington on Thursday. It was great to see some amazing costumes around school. Take a look at a small selection. We really admire the creativity of students (and their parents) whatever the age and stage!

Poppy Appeal
It’s that very important time of year – the approach of Remembrance Day. Assistant Head of Senior School, Mr Stewart Findlay, tells us how we will commemorate this event and why it’s so special.
Each year, Wellington College Bangkok work in partnership with the Royal British Legion of Thailand to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal. Over the past six years we have built a strong relationship with this organisation and last year raised over 28,000 THB for a good cause.
From Tuesday 29 October until Monday 11 November, there will be boxes of poppies, toys, badges and wristbands available for staff, students and our parent community. These will be positioned at both the Junior and Senior School Reception and can be had for a small donation (eg. 100 – 200 THB).
On Monday 11 November, members of our Senior School Student Council and House Captains will represent our community at the Annual Service of Remembrance in Kanchanaburi. We have been asked to lay a wreath on behalf of our community and a student will have the honour of reading the Kohima Epitaph at the service. This event is organised by the RBL Thailand and British Embassy and will be attended by several hundred Ambassadors, Défense Attaches, dignitaries, veterans, current military personal and members of the public. Our community will also be represented at the British Embassy service at the British Club on Sunday 10 November.
All money collected will be presented and donated to the Royal British Legion of Thailand and distributed to military veterans and related causes in the UK and Thailand. Poppies are available to students, parents, staff and our wider community and can be worn both in school and outside of school.

Many thanks for your support

Odd Socks Day
On Tuesday 12 November we will mark Anti Bullying Week with Odd Socks Day. This is a popular global celebration of all which is unique about each individual. No one should ever be made to feel bad about their age, size, gender, heritage, learning style or anything at all about themselves. We are ALL different and we are ALL amazing. Show you agree by wearing odd socks! We’ll take lots of pictures and share with you all.

Senior School Books
There are plenty of new arrivals in the Senior School Library. Librarian, Joanna Whitehouse has shared the titles in focus this week. Which one takes your fancy? There’s lots to choose from including historical fiction by Robert Harris, the Extinct series by Garrod and a selection featuring dead endings – They Both Die in the End, Where the World Ends and Dead Ends.

IGCSE Results – Addition!
Last week we shared some fabulous stories of IGCSE achievements by our students. We inadvertently missed another three of Shawn’s IGCSE achievements – so his results are even better than we shared last week! Please see below. Shawn – we are so very proud of you!
Shawn Pruttinun
Shawn is a real academic and wonderfully creative artist. After achieving top IGCSE grades in all his subjects Shawn is now weighing up his next move and may even look to combine his fantastic artistic talent with his undoubted mathematical ability. Whatever his decision, it is sure to lead to a very bright future indeed. Shawn can be found inspiring others as an Emcee at school events, spearheading student comms and entering debates, competitions and more.
IGCSE Results - Art – 9, Biology – 9, Chemistry – 9, English Literature – A*, English Language – A, Maths – A*, Physics - 9, History – A*, Design Technology – A*, Additional Maths - A

Basketball
As always there have been loads of sports events going on this week. We start with Basketball where our Head of Basketball, Coach David gives us an overview of two very successful Under 15 games.
Under 15 Girls
The girls continued with their impressive performance thus far this season. The girls playing at Brighton used solid team play and their deep bench to generate a high number of quality shots. The team's depth has been a major aspect of their success. With 12 quality players the Under 15 team has been able to sub players in and out freely with very little drop off in performance, as most teams don't have that sort of luxury. The girls continue to improve and get better at finer points of the game and their ceiling for this season continues to be high. It is certainly a group the Wellington community is excited about following. (30-6 Won)

Under 15 Boys
After a slow start to the season the boys are coming along. Coach Edmond has made the necessary adjustments and now the boys seem to be playing much better under his guidance. The boys while lacking great size, have moved to a more transition based attack, and the results have been obvious in that scoring is up and the boys have had more successful results. Overall our Under 15 programme has had a great season thus far and as we draw closer and closer to the GBAC playoffs and tournaments expectations surrounding our U15 teams continue to rise. (34-17 Won)

Golf
Hole in One Alert!
Yindee from Year 3 in our Little Lions squad scored a
hole in one last night at Unico practice! That makes three hole-in-ones on the 16th from our WCIB players this past year!

Football
The Wellington U11 Boys faced STA and secured a fantastic 4-1 victory! The team showed incredible spirit and energy throughout the match. Despite the rain, the boys remained focused, avoiding long balls and putting in the hard work to create chances. It was a well-deserved win that showcased great teamwork.
