Dear Parents

I’ve always said that school should not be a place where we pretend our students are good at things, just to keep them happy. Young people can achieve real excellence, not just ‘school’ excellence – why not?

And there were moments at The Addams Family in our Theatre last night when I felt I was watching the real thing – professional-level excellence. That’s thanks to a lot of people, all working towards the same goal.  But of course it was the students who actually achieved it. I’m in awe.  What a wonderful show!

I said at the end that the bar is getting higher and higher. And it is – not just for theatre performances but for everything in school. So many great things are being done here – and we never stop doing even more, and doing it even better. So that the ‘real world’ is not just out there but in here as well.

With best wishes

Chris

The Addams Family

What a week it has been for Drama at Wellington College Bangkok. This has been our biggest and best production in all our seven years! Over two nights (and including a lovely student only preview on Tuesday) our amazing cast and musicians brought the house down with their fabulous singing, dancing and acting. Months of rehearsals, practice, fittings and planning were all worth it. We’d love to say thank you to everyone involved. Please see the programme below and allow us to give credit where it’s due!

Photographs

Enjoy this little peek at the photographs here. We’ll have more to share but here are some of our favourites. We also have a highlights film coming very soon.

Book Week

Book Week is coming soon and preparations are well underway! We have new Reading Ambassadors who you will be introduced to next week and we also have a wealth of activities going on. A highlight is a visit from author, Martin Chatterton. Why not read one of his books over Half Term before you meet him?

Fall in Love With a Book

Whether Valentine’s Day is your favourite time of the year – or quite the opposite, a book will never let you down! This Valentine’s Day our Senir School Librarian, Ms Joanna Whitehouse has some recommendations to melt the coldest of hearts…

Junior School Science Highlights

Thank you to our Head of Junior School Science, Ms Beth Upton for her updates on what’s new in her lab this week!

Hearts

Earlier this week Year 6 wrapped up their topic on the Circulatory System with an exciting pig’s heart dissection. The students had the chance to explore the heart’s structure up close, carefully examining the muscular walls of the left and right ventricles. They also took a detailed look at the aorta, vena cava, and pulmonary vessels. Everyone had the opportunity to feel the heart’s weight and size, gaining a deeper understanding of its function. It was a fantastic, hands-on experience that brought the topic to life and sparked plenty of curiosity and discussion!

Chicks

After three weeks of patiently weighing the eggs, monitoring the temperature and humidity, and candling to check for growth, the eggs have finally hatched! Year 5 was thrilled to welcome 10 lively hatchlings today, making for an incredibly exciting Monday. The students are busy naming their new feathered friends and are taking on the responsibility of cleaning and feeding them while they stay in the science lab.

This hands-on experience offers a tangible way to learn about life cycles, while also helping students develop a strong sense of responsibility. By the half-term break, the chicks will return to Matty's farm, where they’ll enjoy a happy life outdoors. A truly unforgettable learning experience for everyone involved!

Year 10 and 11 Art Trip to National Gallery

Here at Wellington we understand the value of off-site learning and immersing ourselves in different environments through residentials in Bangkok and further afield plus day trips throughout this amazing city. Our Year 10 and 11 Art students recently had the opportunity to visit the Bangkok Biennale at the National Gallery. This contemporary Art festival features a dynamic range of local and international artists, exploring global social, political, and environmental issues through engaging, thought-provoking exhibitions.

In addition to experiencing the Biennale, students also had the chance to explore the National Gallery's rich collection of both traditional and contemporary Thai art, deepening their understanding of the country’s artistic heritage.

The aim of this trip was to expose students to a diverse range of artistic approaches, encouraging reflection and enhancing their critical thinking and analytical skills. It also provided an opportunity for students to engage with artists' work firsthand with the result that they would gain inspiration and understanding within their own work.

Thank you very much to Head of Art, Ms Duna Carbonell and Art teacher, Mr Daniel Scott for accompanying the trip and facilitating this important lesson.

Year 3 have had a great week in Maths as they investigate the concept of perimeter. Yesterday, they took their learning off the page and onto the floor, using metre rulers to measure the outlines of various shapes.

Under 18 Football

In the midst of studying for IGCSEs and AS Levels, our Under 18 Football teams find time to get out on the field and play! This week the boys and girls were in action against SPIP on our South Field. It's wonderful to see how their skills have been honed over the last few years here at Wellington. Great teamwork and passion from all the players whatever their role or position! Thank you to our tireless coaches and teachers for inspiration and support as ever!
Under 11 Football

Well done to our Under 11 Boys team who gave a great performance against LFIB earlier this week. There were a lot of goals, but for us the key message was to see the hard work on display and some very good football! Great game boys!
