Dear Parents

See below for details of how this week’s FoW All-Stars Run went. I really enjoyed it – and, although I didn’t actually run, by the end I was completely exhausted after watching everyone else! Many thanks to all involved: a great event and, I think, an excellent new annual tradition!

I’m writing this from the Beaumont Ruam Pattana School in Chaiyaphum, one of the organisations we are looking to work with as part of the further development of our Global Citizenship programme. Such work is very important, both for the people we can help and for our students themselves, learning more about what it means to be a good person with strong values. I look forward to explaining more about this excellent project when I am back.

Next week is Half Term. A well-earned rest for students as well as for their teachers.

I have switched off my regular morning alarm – and wondering if I can switch off the whole phone for a week. That would be an interesting challenge.

See you on Monday 3 March.

With best wishes

Chris

All Stars Run

There was an incredible atmosphere on the Front Field on Monday as over 500 students, parents and staff joined the All-Stars Fun Run competition. We are so grateful to our Friends of Wellington who made this event a roaring success. Please see their message below and a very special acknowledgement to our sponsors.

You can also see the winners in each category whose names will be immortalized on the first Leaderboard – with generations to come remembering them!

Duke of Edinburgh Ceremony

Wednesday saw a very special ceremony celebrating our Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Last academic year our current Year 11 students completed their Bronze Award with Silver Awards going to the current Year 12 students. Thank you so much to the parents, teachers and students who joined us to share this special moment with them.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are run at Wellington by Ms Sally Nunes, supported by many of the Senior School teachers and we are very grateful to them all for ensuring the students had such a rewarding experience. Ms Nunes tells us “ We extend our congratulations to all our Duke of Edinburgh participants for their dedication and perseverance in this challenging yet rewarding co-curricular programme. We look forward to seeing many more Wellington students embark on and succeed in this journey in the future! “

If you’d like to know more – please contact Ms Nunes or your child’s House Tutor.

Year 6 Residential Trip

Residential Trips here at Wellington are always the very best fun! Year 6 teacher, Mr Jason Dass, shares a brief update of the recent trip to Kanchanaburi.

“Earlier this month, Year 6 went on their Residential to Kanchanaburi. As always, the trip was magical with children displaying wonderful independence, fascination for historical learning, a real sense of adventure and ultimately, having fun!

As well as kayaking, another highlight was supporting a local community by building dams in the forest to prevent their village from flooding in rainy season. We were also surprised one day by stumbling across four elderly female elephants having a bath in the river! Spectacular!

All the children were amazing and the trip was a great success. Thank you to Mr Dass and the Year 6 team for organising the opportunity.”

Thank you, as ever, to Mr Jason Dass, Mr John Ludvigsen and all the team for ensuring that this was a wonderful experience for all concerned!

Book Week Preview

There is so much going on the first week back with tons of activities for Book Week! Please see the posters and visuals for some ideas of what’s going on. We will be dressing up as our favourite characters, listening to visiting authors, doing crafts and quizzes and so much more!

Most importantly – we will be reading, reading, reading. Lose yourself in a book this half term – and be prepared to read some more when you are back in school.

Don’t forget to donate books to the Junior School Lobby! Let your reading enjoyment help others to read!
