Dear Parents

We set up the Wellington Quick Info Line group a long time ago, in order to provide quick info to parents. I think it works well for this purpose. It is also possible for a parent to ask a quick question in that group, if they cannot find the person to contact directly. (Below is a list of direct contacts – please use them as necessary.)

I’ve always been happy that I am able to respond directly to questions in this group, because being open, and listening, is very important for us as a community. Please do take great care when posting a query in this group, though. It is not for complaints, and parents should certainly not comment about each other: misunderstandings can happen, which have unfair consequences for upstanding members of the community.

I am writing from Singapore, where I had to come for a FOBISIA Heads’ meeting this week, at Tanglin Trust School. A special visit for me, because I worked there, many years ago. It’s a great school, in a wonderful country – but I’ll still be delighted to be back at Wellington on Monday. There’s nowhere better!

See you on Monday.

With best wishes

Chris

Dear Wellington Community

A VERY big thank you from all of us at Wellington to our amazing student tour guides, speakers and performers. Your support, experience and leadership made our Open Morning last Saturday extremely special. We appreciate the sacrifices made – it’s no mean feat to give up your Saturday to come to school.

Thank you all!

International Women’s Day

To celebrate this important day, our female Senior School Scholars were thrilled to attend a session with Dr Darika Lapiphat, our Chair of Governors. Dr Darika is an inspiration to the women of Wellington Bangkok and the education world. Dr Darika talked about her inspirations, her experiences and her journey. She gave advice and answered a number of excellent questions from the students including
  • What inspired you to start your own school, and what were some early challenges you faced in the beginning?
  • As a woman in a leadership role, what unique challenges or opportunities have you encountered throughout your journey?
  • What were some of the pivotal moments or turning points in your career that helped you get to where you are today?
Dr Darika talked about her experiences in project management teams and explained how she enjoys working with women – who always look at detail and push projects forward. She admires the ability of women in general to go deeper into the challenges they are facing. She explained that there is no “perfect” project – all projects will run into challenges and it’s how we address these challenges which counts.  The students were very inspired by the session and we thank Dr Darika for spending her precious time with us. Thank you to Ms Jane Sharp, Head of Senior School for hosting and to Ms Rosie Scourti for organising the session.

Do you have an idea that could change the world? On Monday morning, 10 March, 12 Year 3-6 students came together for an inspiring Science Fair focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From ingenious trash collectors to a kinetic energy playground and solutions to combat microplastics, the creativity and problem-solving on display were truly remarkable!

The projects were judged by Senior School The projects were judged by Ms Sally Nunes, Mr Nick Cadman, Ms Gill Elrick and Mr Stewart Findlay, with the top 3 winners earning a spot at the National Final on 31 March at King’s College Bangkok. Business Enterprise in Chiang Rai

It is always amazing to see all the extra projects initiated by our students on top of the very busy days they have here at Wellington! We congratulate Year 12 student, Nobby, for his exceptional work with Chiang Rai Fashion to the World Season 3.

Nobby has taken on the role of Project Director and Ambassador of Chiang Rai Fashion to the World X WCIB and in this role, he spoke at the press conference about the participation of our Year 12 students in this project. We were proud to hear him explain that participation reflects our 5is identity here at Wellington and the concept of global citizenship championed by the school.

Master Mr. Chris Nicholls travelled to Chiang Rai and also spoke at the conference praising the dedication of our students to this project. He highlighted how Wellington helps shape our students not only to become global citizens but also care about the local community. Also present at the press conference were the Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai, the Mayor of Mae Sai District, Executive from Vathanagul Group, Designer from Myanmar, Provincial Commerce Director of Chiang Rai, and other high level representatives from both government and private sectors. The event has received excellent coverage by the media!

Within the project, a group of Year 12 volunteers led by Nobby will design outfits made by textiles and materials from local Hill Tribes community in Chiang Rai. They will create a brand, lay out business and marketing plans, and organize sales from which the income will be given back to local community.

Well done to all the students! This is great work and certainly reflects our values and our ethos. We are very proud of Nobby and his friends – Kunpol, Pann, Proud, Maple, Bua, Unna, Shawn.

Wellington’s Ski Trip Adventure - Tokyo and Tangram Madarao

Our recent ski trip was an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, learning, and incredible experiences! Forty-eight students from Years 5 to 9, accompanied by six dedicated teachers, embarked on an exciting week in Japan, exploring the vibrant city of Tokyo before heading to the slopes of Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort.

The trip began with two days in Tokyo, where students marveled at the breathtaking views from Tokyo Tower, immersed themselves in the interactive digital art of teamLab Planets Tokyo, and explored Japan’s rich cultural heritage at Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple, and the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. Staying in the heart of Asakusa, students also had the chance to sample delicious local cuisine, making their city experience even more memorable.

From Tokyo, we traveled to Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort, where students spent four days skiing on fresh powder, refining their technique, and building confidence on the slopes. With expert guidance from professional ski instructors and the unwavering support of their Wellington teachers, students of all skill levels made fantastic progress. Whether it was their first time skiing or they were already seasoned skiers, everyone enjoyed the thrill of the slopes and the joy of learning in a stunning winter setting.

Beyond the skiing, the trip was filled with fun, laughter, and new friendships, making it a truly enriching experience for all. From Tokyo’s bustling streets to the peaceful snow-covered mountains, this adventure was one to remember!

Thank you so much to Mr Jason Dass and Mr Dax Ward for the pictures and information and to all of the team for ensuring that the children had a wonderful time!

Two Wellington students were recognised for their outstanding participation, a huge well done to Lincoln and Ray for winning the Best Delegate and Honourable Mention awards for their respective committees, an exceptional feat for these young beginners to MUN.

Lunchtime Lectures continue to be a highlight in Senior School. Teachers, parents and students are invited to talk and we have heard on so many fabulous and varied subjects such as Who Deserves Statues, the Importance of Evidence, Optimism and Being Blind. Lectures have ranged from the scientific, to the philosophical and the artistic.

On Monday we had a lively session from Drama teacher, Ashley Edwards who spoke on Drama as a Tool for Social Change. He touched on Ancient Greece, Epic Theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed and gave numerous examples of plays past and present which have had a lasting influence. Thank you, Mr Edwards!

We thank Ms Rosalind Scourti for organising these thought provoking sessions. Please do attend the next one - or volunteer to speak. We would love to hear from anyone who has something to say!. Lectures coming up include Natural Catastrophes and Disasters and the Legacy of the British Empire.

Final Reflection on The Addams Family

A few weeks on from The Addams Family, the impact of this production is still being felt! From student feedback surveys to staff reflections, one thing is clear—this was an unforgettable experience that fostered creativity, teamwork, and a love for performance.

As we wrap up the project, we want to say a huge thank you to our cast, crew, musicians, and production team—your hard work and commitment made this production a true success!

What’s next?

  • Drama Club Enrichment and the Producers Club are now in full swing, giving students exciting new opportunities to explore their passion for the performing arts.

  • We’re already looking ahead to our next production, and students are excitedly discussing possibilities!

FOBISIA Golf

Thank you very much to Director of Golf – Coach Michael Antona who has shared a comprehensive update on the recent FOBISIA Golf Tournament which has resulted in some well deserved triumph for Wellington! We are very grateful to Coach Michael and all the team for all that they do to allow us to host these tournaments!

Wellington Crowned FOBISIA Golf Champions Once Again!

Wellington College International School Bangkok has once again showcased its golfing excellence, claiming the FOBISIA Golf Team Championship for the second time in three years. The tournament, held across three of Thailand’s finest courses—Thai Country Club, Amata Spring, and Ballyshear Golf Links—welcomed 129 students from 22 FOBISIA member schools, including 10 international and 12 local Thai schools. After Round 1, Wellington trailed Shrewsbury International School by 4 shots, with Marker, Music, Luca, and Nava contributing to the team score. Round 2 saw Marker, Pai, Music, and Rotbus keeping us in contention, but heading into the final round, we faced a 7-shot deficit—a massive performance was needed.

And what a performance it was! Rotbus was on great form on Tuesday night. He turned up on Wednesday and delivered a career-best -5 under par, setting the tone for an epic comeback. Marker bounced back from a tough start (+3 through 8) with a bogey-free -3 back nine, proving once again why he’s Mr. Reliable. Ryan stepped up with an even-par final round, and Nava showed her incredible talent at just 10 years old, closing with a +2 final round on tricky greens. The team’s determination paid off as we overturned a deficit to claim:

🏆 Overall FOBISIA Team Champions
🏆 Boys’ Team Champions (after a tie-breaker with Shrewsbury)
🏆 Girls’ Team Champions Individual successes included:
🥇 Music – Flight A Girls Winner
🥉 Nice – Flight A Girls 3rd Place
🥈 Marker – Flight B Boys Runner-Up & Scratch Runner-Up
🥈 Pai – Flight B Girls Runner-Up
🥇 Nava – Flight D Girls Winner
🥉 Seven – Flight D Girls 3rd Place

Beyond the medals, every student demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork. A huge thank you to Wellington staff for their support both during and in the lead-up to the event, Fore Management for delivering a world-class tournament, and our host venues for providing an unforgettable experience. This was a truly memorable week of golf—Wellington Golf continues to go from strength to strength!

FOBISIA Table Tennis

Head of Table Tennis, Bursar Dr Peter Church shares an update on a very successful tournament hosted here last weekend. We thank all the teachers, coaches and staff supporting this.

On Friday 7 and Saturday 8 March, Wellington College hosted the inaugural FOBISIA Table Tennis Championships 2025, with 67 students from 10 international schools, including St Christopher’s who travelled from Malaysia, playing in 5 different tournaments. The match officials were provided by the Table Tennis Association of Thailand, whose Vice-President, Khun Udom Suksudprasert, was the VIP guest at the closing awards ceremony.

In the FOBISIA Cup, the Wellington College Dukes Academy dominated the Under 11 category, with Gabriel (Year 6) beating his younger sibling Raphael (Year 5) in the U11 final, before the brothers teamed up to win the U11 doubles, beating another Wellington pair in the final, Kraam (Year 5) and Sky (Year 5). Gabriel took his personal trophy haul to three, when he came third in the U15 doubles final with his partner, Mattie (Year 8).

In the Dukes Cup, there were medals for Ben (Year 5) who won the U11 and also came third in the U13, and Sean (Year 4) who came third in the U13 singles. In the doubles, Wellington were runners-up in both the U11 doubles, with Pip (Year 4) and Khun (Year 5), and the U15 doubles, with Ocean (Year 8) and Home (Year 8).

In the U15 doubles, debutants for the School, Boss (Year 8) and Wish (Year 8) took a creditable third place.

FOBISIA Tennis

Week 2 of the FOBISIA Tennis tournament in Hua Hin saw another great set of results for our Wellington team under the guidance of Coach J. Jackfruit entered the Over 15 Boys category, though still not even 14. Despite injury and the greater age and stature of some of his competitors, he achieved a remarkable second place which is reflective of his growing success in the rankings and on the circuit. After the match, both the audience and the organisers praised him for his determination, and he was invited to meet with the organisers personally for commendation.

Tuang, at just 11 years and 10 months old, competed in the Under 13 Girls category along with Nida and Ben. Although none of them received medals, they all performed admirably on the court. They showcased the true spirit of sportsmanship, respecting the rules, and earning the admiration of both the audience and other schools.

Our community of players, parents and coaches earned many friends through our sporting performances and supportive behaviour. Thank you very much to Coach J and to all our parents who supported the children.
