Dear Parents
I was inspecting the new Crowthorne Building this week. You will remember that this new 8,500sqm building is due to open at the beginning of next school year, in August 2025. It’s pretty exciting.
The entire ground floor will be the Music Department, with excellent new specialist classrooms, practice rooms, recording studio and faculty areas.
The entire first floor will be our new Tech Centre. With high-specification Computer Science, Robotics and Design Technology labs, this is a world-class facility that I can’t wait to start using!
The second and third floors will be the new home for our Upper Junior School, Years 5 and 6. They will have their own Science Lab, Library, Harkness rooms, as well as a
brand-new playground directly outside the building. Plus their classrooms and Learning Studios, of course!
The fourth floor will contain regular Senior School classrooms, plus a Food Technology lab, two Drama classrooms and large Faculty areas.
The top floor of the Crowthorne Building will be a multi-purpose area, for examinations when they take place but also for events, assemblies and a range of other activities. It offers the best views, as well!
See you on Monday.
With best wishes
Chris

THE GREAT DEBATE
This week Senior School has been hosting The Great Debate for schools across Bangkok. This competition boosts students’ public speaking ability and their confidence and ability to make well-reasoned arguments. This is a longstanding, prestigious public speaking competition run in association with the UK Historical Association.
On Tuesday we welcomed students from Brighton and Kings for the Junior Competition (Years 7-9).
This year's question was How has history shaped me? inspiring some well-researched, and confidently delivered responses. The speakers used wide reaching, global examples, such as the influence of Finnish politicians, Chinese admirals, and American aviators as part of their personal perspectives.
We are very proud of the Wellington team of Pao Pao (Year 9), Lincoln (Year 7) and Shana (Year 9). The panel of judges chose Shana as the winner of this year's trophy.
On Thursday it was the turn of our Seniors (Years 10-12). Our team of Miki (Year 10), Lanna (Year 12), and Lucy (Year 12) delivered confident and compelling speeches on the thought-provoking question How can your local history tell a global story?
The evening featured the closest competition yet, with an impressive standard of debate from all participants. After a hard-fought contest, the judging panel awarded first place to Evie from Kings College, with Miki from Wellington securing a well-earned second place.
Well done to all the students who challenged themselves to enter. A big thank you to Mr Paul McCraw who organised the tournament and inspired our students. |

LANGUAGES OLYMPIAD
On Wednesday, 12 March 2025 some of our students from Year 5 to 8 took part in the First Languages Olympiad hosted at Patana School Bangkok, gathering 264 participants from 11 schools. This event was a great opportunity to celebrate multilingualism and enhance language skills through fun activities.
In 3 workshops, each one dedicated to one language (French, Spanish and Mandarin), students worked in teams of 4 or 5, rotating between four different activities to challenge their skills in vocabulary, Arts/music, culture and sport/games. The primary focus was on team building and collaboration and each team was made of students from different schools and different year groups.
Our students brilliantly upheld our values, showing respect, collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, curiosity, risk-taking, perseverance, and global awareness, along with critical thinking skills.
Special congratulations to the following students:
- French: Bamboo Year 6 (Gold)
- Spanish: Nauen Year 7 (Gold) - Anya Year 7 (Bronze)
- Mandarin: Latte Year 8 (Gold) - Lincoln Year 7 (Silver) - Great Year 7 (Bronze)

Are you a Times Tables Rock Star? Friday 28 March is a day for all our children to shine by dressing up AND solving some exciting Maths problems! Times Tables Rock Stars is a maths programme used by Wellington College Bangkok and thousands of other schools around the world. It helps and inspires children to learn their times tables and gives them the confidence to move through different levels with ease. We invite all our children in Years 1-6 to dress up as rock stars - combined with their House shirts. It's going to be a super colourful day! Under 18 GBAC BOYS AND GIRLS – FOOTBALL
Last Saturday we hosted the Under 18 GBAC Football for both Boys and Girls. Both teams played well, despite issues with the size of teams – and some exceptionally hot weather! We send huge congratulations to all – and special praise to our Under 18 Boys who initially started with only 6 players! They emerged with a third place Bronze medal. Thank you to all the parents who came to support.
