Dear Parents
I use AI quite a lot. I had a fascinating discussion with it earlier this week about psychology and literature. I research things with AI (always checking sources, since it does sometimes invent them). Sometimes I ask for advice, or for a summary of a long text. And so on.
When students use AI, they are quite likely to ask it to do their homework. In one way, that’s sensible – save time, and get a better grade!
But a student using AI to answer a homework question is like an athlete using a robot to do their weight training. Weights do not need lifting for themselves. If you get a machine to do your curls for you, your biceps will not grow.
Same with homework. The actual answer doesn’t matter (teacher already knows it!) – what matters is that the student does the thinking and, thereby, the learning.
AI can say kind words. It can discuss ideas at a high level (it told me that studying literature teaches us ‘to navigate life with a kind of graceful scepticism, which is both moral and aesthetic’). It can solve problems big and small.
But AI is not human. For actual empathy; for a smile and a glance; for the thrill of winning a football match as a team; for waking up on a Saturday morning and feeling delight as the rising sun peeps cheekily through the curtains, painting delicate patterns on your wall; for smelling fresh bread; or falling in love; or enjoying music; or marvelling at the astonishing perfection of your newborn baby; or the touch of silk; or regret; or genuine friendship: for these, you need humans.
School doesn’t teach those things. It provides a human society and a culture which supports them to grow. A bad school culture will warp them and stunt them. Ours is good, and it’s the job of each of us to make it better and better. More and more human. Sermon over – I hope you have a wonderful Songkran!
With best wishes
Chris

Dear Parents,
You may already be aware that we offer a Family Referral Programme to all our current parents. The aim of this initiative is to help promote Wellington College Bangkok to friends, family, and colleagues. Both the referring family (you) and the referred family will receive a credit of THB 50,000 towards future tuition fees once the referred family has enrolled at our school and made a tuition fee payment.
More information and the referral form can be found on InWellington (or via this link for quick access). There are some clear eligibility criteria for this scheme. To clarify, in order to benefit from this Programme, the referring family must complete the referral form BEFORE the referred family contacts the school via any channel. If any form of previous contact has been established, a referral fee cannot be authorised. As such, if you have recommended our wonderful school to any of your contacts, please be sure to complete the form before they reach out to us.
We look forward to continuing to grow our incredible Wellington community with your support. If you have any questions about the scheme you may contact the Admissions team at any time using admissions@wellingtoncollege.ac.th

A Joyful Songkran Celebration at Wellington
We had a great time celebrating Songkran together! From water play in both Junior and Senior School, to the traditional water pouring for teachers, offering food to the monks, and music from our Thai Ensemble in the Sports Hall — it was a lovely way to come together as a community and celebrate Thai culture. Wishing everyone a happy Songkran break. See you next term!

Visit from Wellington College UK Governor, Virginia Rhodes
Earlier this week we were delighted to welcome Virginia Rhodes to our campus before her onward journey to our sister school in Shanghai. Virginia is a Governor from Wellington College UK and was here to spend time with key staff to learn more about our outstanding educational offering, and to offer her advice to our team. Virginia has an extensive educational background within UK schools, is the CEO of The Circle Trust, and also works as both an OFSTED Lead Inspector and Trustee for the AQA exam board.

Senior School Farewell Assembly
As Term 2 ends, our Senior School Farewell Assembly this week was full of memorable moments. From an incredible performance by the Year 9 Jazz Band to a video that captured our special memories, we also celebrated House results and heard a thoughtful overview of the term from Ms Jane Sharp, our Head of Senior School. It’s been a term of both great moments and challenges—like the earthquake! And this assembly was the perfect way to wrap it all up. Wishing everyone a restful and joyful break! |

This term has been nothing short of action-packed, with an incredible range of sporting events taking place across both the Junior and Senior School. From house competitions and sports days to high-level conference tournaments and FOBISIA fixtures, our students have been immersed in opportunities to compete, collaborate, and shine. It’s been fantastic to see so many students proudly representing their house and school, demonstrating determination, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout.
In what has been a comparatively short term, we’ve packed in an incredible 47 fixtures, 12 tournaments, 10 days of FOBISIA competition, and even an overnight trip — a true testament to the energy and dedication of our students and staff. Here’s a round-up of just some of the highlights.
Our house competitions and sports days continue to be a cornerstone of our sporting calendar. Junior and Senior School House Football was a vibrant celebration of participation and community, as students of all ages came together to compete for their houses. Year 5 and 6 Sports Day brought fantastic energy and effort, with students striving for individual medals while working collectively for house points. Year 2 took part in a Healthy Lifestyles Sports Day, where they completed a variety of active challenges while learning about healthy habits. Senior School Sports Day was another standout event, packed with impressive performances and strong house pride. We now look forward to the rescheduled Year 3–4 and Year 1 sports days taking place in the Summer Term.
Badminton has also been a key feature of the term. We hosted a friendly fixture with 20 students from ANS joining 27 of our U13 players during their Games Afternoon — a great opportunity for competitive fun and inter-school collaboration. Our students also represented Wellington at U15 Badminton at SISB, U19 at SPIP, and U13 at BCB. Across all levels, they showed commitment, progress and positivity, and we are proud of each and every player.
Table Tennis has had an exciting term. We hosted the U11 GBAC Table Tennis competition and finished in a strong second place. Our players also travelled to SISB for the U13 event, gaining valuable experience in preparation for FOBISIA. We were proud to host the FOBISIA Table Tennis tournament at Wellington — a professional and inspiring event held in partnership with Table Tennis Thailand. With over 70 students involved and the chairman of the Table Tennis Association of Thailand presenting the awards, it was a huge success. Highlights included Gabriel winning the U11 singles, Gabriel and Raphael taking the doubles title, and many other top-three finishes across different age categories and tournaments.
In Golf, we hosted the FOBISIA tournament with over 130 players from across Asia competing across three different courses over three days. The standard of play was exceptional, and we were thrilled to see Wellington crowned overall winners. This event was not only a showcase of sporting talent but also of outstanding organisation and community collaboration. A huge congratulations to our WCIB Golf Team on securing the win!
Our Basketball teams were also in action at the U11 FOBISIA Basketball Tournament, hosted by Rugby School Thailand. We took 17 players who competed with determination, grit and growing confidence. Their teamwork stood out across all games, and we are excited to see how they develop in the sport moving forward.
