Dear Parents
Shakespeare’s Romeo says, ‘Ay me, sad hours seem long’. If he is correct, Wellington is clearly not sad at all, because time is rushing along extremely fast: it’s the end of the second week of Summer Term already!
Next week, our Y11 students have 15 separate IGCSE examinations, including the two-day Art Practical exam, and Y12s a further four AS exams.
All these exams happen in the Skylight Building, and do require peace and quiet throughout. If you have been over there, you will have seen those nice big signs.
Until the exam season is finished, parents must not bring their younger children into the Skylight Building. This building was not designed as a play area, and the noise would disrupt our students’ concentration. Thank you for your understanding.
This week I was delighted to attend a fascinating FoW parent information session on Resilience and Empathy in the Digital World. Three experts – Dr Tyn Taritawanond (Chief Digital Officer at Thailand Post), Dr Jennifer Chavanovanich (Associate Dean, Faculty of Psychology at Chulalongkorn University), and Mr Santi Siritheerajesd (Child Protection specialist) – took the stage, moderated excellently by our own Wellington parent Khun Sinida.
They discussed very important key issues, and gave very good advice to the parent audience on how to talk with your children about the good and bad sides of the online world, and what to look out for.
If you ever have concerns about the confusing digital world your children inhabit, please never hesitate to talk to us. It is always best for parents and teachers to communicate closely, and work together to support children.
Don’t forget that School is open as normal on Monday (12 May). See you then!
With best wishes
Chris

Senior School GSL Project Spotlight
As part of our Global Social Leaders (GSL) programme, six groups of our Senior School students are working on different projects, each aiming to make a positive impact in the community. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing each group and highlighting the meaningful work they’re doing to create change.
We’re starting with a team from the Sixth Form, joined by one Year 11 student: Shawn, Maple, Neya, Bua, Lisa, Kuku, and Jerry.
As you may know, air pollution is a recurring and long-term issue in many parts of Thailand, especially during certain seasons. Here at Wellington, we’re fortunate to have air filtration systems in place to keep our learning environments safe. However, many local Thai schools don’t have access to such resources and are often forced to close during periods of high PM levels. This situation led our students to think about how they could help improve the situation and make a positive impact.
|
|
|
Their project, Youth Air-Pollution Mitigation, focuses on developing affordable, sustainable air purifiers for use in local schools. The team has already researched and built working prototypes, partnered with Thai local schools to deliver hands-on workshops, and donated purifiers to help improve classroom air quality. Their work is already making a meaningful difference in the community.
Special thanks to Ms Mo, our Senior School GSL Coordinator, for her guidance and support throughout the project.

Chiang Rai Fashion to the World: WCIB Students Step onto the Design Stage
Nine of our volunteer Year 12 students, together with their Year 10 and Year 11 project assistants, recently travelled to Chiang Rai as part of the Chiang Rai Fashion to the World: Season 3 project, in which Wellington College International School Bangkok is an official partner.
At Mae Fah Luang University, they attended a workshop on the design and development of ethnic woven textile products. They also participated in lectures on weaving techniques, Mekhong civilisation ethnic textiles, and textile weaving that incorporates local artisan methods, delivered by professors from the university. These sessions were also attended by Mae Fah Luang University students. Current Year 12 student Nobby, as Project Director and Ambassador of
Chiang Rai Fashion to the World x WCIB, delivered the thank-you speech at the end of the event.
At Vathanagul Resort, the group attended a welcome dinner organised exclusively for WCIB, presided over by the Chief of Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organisation, who represented the Governor of Chiang Rai. The Chair of the Chiang Rai SMEs Association also joined the dinner. Afterwards, the students took part in a meeting to match their designs with real local textiles, materials, and accessories. Impressed by the students’ work, the Project Management Team invited all WCIB volunteers to participate in the Designers Awards Competition!
The next step in the project is to design and produce t-shirts to sell and raise funds for the local ethnic group in Chiang Rai. The students will also showcase their outfits and walk the longest runway in Chiang Rai at the grand event,
Chiang Rai Fashion on the Road.
We hope you’ll join us in congratulating the nine Year 12 volunteers — Nobby, KP, Jar, Pann, Shawn, Proud, Bua, Anna, and Maple — along with the Year 10 and Year 11 project assistants, for their efforts and dedication to this project. Stay tuned for their progress!

Year 1 Sports Day
Our Year 1 students had a fantastic time at Sports Day this week! It was great to see the Sports Hall full of energy as the children enjoyed a mix of physical activities and friendly competition. They took part in a range of fun events, jumping, tossing, running, and even a bit of dancing with their teachers! A big thank you to all the parents who came to cheer them on, and to everyone who helped make the day so special for our young learners.

Parent Workshop Fostering Resilience & Empathy in the Digital World
Wednesday morning, we welcomed our parent community to a meaningful workshop on Resilience & Empathy in today’s digital world.
We were joined by three incredible speakers, each bringing their own insights and experiences, Dr. Tyn Tawitaranond – Chief Digital Officer, Thailand Post, Dr. Jennifer Chavanovanich – Associate Dean, Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University, and Khun Santi Siritheerajesd – Child Protection Specialist. The discussion was expertly moderated by Khun Sinida Petchveerakul, TV host and a wonderful Wellington parent.
A huge thank you to our Friends of Wellington (FoW), for organising this insightful session and for bringing together such a valuable conversation for our community. The discussion explored different types of empathy—understanding another’s perspective, feeling what they feel, and taking action to support them. These qualities are especially important in the online world, where communication often lacks tone and context. We were reminded to be calm, kind, and patient online. Social media has shifted communication from one-on-one to many-to-many, creating both opportunities and challenges for young people.
To close the session, our Master, Mr Chris Nicholls, asked a thought-provoking question: “Do we have digital grandparents?”
A simple reminder that not everyone is part of the digital space and that real human connection remains essential.Thank you to all the parents who joined us today. Let’s keep this conversation going. |

GBAC Cricket
Wellington College Cheetahs successfully defended their GBAC Cricket title at the 2025 tournament hosted by Thai Sikh International School on Wednesday 7 May. On a blisteringly sunny day, the College Cheetahs A Team played red hot cricket to win all their matches with victories over Thai Sikh A, St Andrews 107 A, and the Wellington B team.
The Wellington captain, George (Year 7), marshalled his players to strong performances in both batting and bowling, with JJ (Year 7) delivering the best bowling figures. The fielding was also of an extremely high standard, with player of the tournament, Mattie (Year 8), looking imperious behind the stumps as the Cheetahs wicketkeeper.
On a successful day, the Wellington C team also won the junior event, winning all their matches under the leadership of Doln (Year 7). Other notable performances included exceptional batting by Gabriel (Year 6) who scored 51 unbeaten runs from 30 deliveries for the Wellington B team.
