Dear Parents

This week, I have to say goodbye to one more member of the team. Dr Peter Church joined Wellington in 2020.  Moving from Abu Dhabi, with his family, and jumping into a new role in those first months of the pandemic was a tricky thing to do, but Peter was all-in from Day One.  Not just fully involved, but fully committed to the project of making Wellington as excellent as possible. And he has never wavered from that goal.

Seeing, and seizing, opportunities everywhere, he didn’t just run the WEx programme – he also created our Cricket squad, and threw himself into coaching and organizing matches and tournaments. He also created our Table Tennis squad, bringing in some of Thailand’s top coaching talent to support and, over a few short years, making a big splash in the local and national scene.

And – of course – he has also had the rest of the business of Bursaring to do. His major capital project has been the Crowthorne Building (about to be delivered on time and within budget!), but managing the whole campus masterplan, balancing the books, negotiating contracts, managing teams across the school: these have been his bread and butter.  Aliments of the highest quality.

In light of all this, it has always seemed impossible that Peter would have any free time – yet he does. In just two years of it, he managed to complete his PhD (which is supposed to take 4-5) in a suitably remote quadrant of Gothic Literature. I have sometimes wondered if, simply, there are two of him.

Peter returns to the UK this summer with his wife and two boys to take up an exciting post in a school on the south coast of England. Look out for a sudden Table Tennis boost in Sussex! He will be very much missed here and we wish him the very best of luck in his new endeavours.

I will shortly have exciting news for you about the incoming Bursar, whom I think you will enjoy meeting.

Have a great weekend!

With best wishes

Chris

Wellington Summer Formal 2025

What a fantastic evening it was at this year’s Wellington Summer Formal on Saturday, 14 June at the Grand Hyatt Erawan. Nearly 70 students from Year 10 and Year 11 gathered in the elegant Residence suite for a truly memorable night.

The students looked stylish and glamorous as they enjoyed the evening. The night began with plenty of photo opportunities with friends and families, followed by a delicious buffet. A live DJ kept the dance floor buzzing until the very end — the perfect celebration to wrap up the academic year before the summer break for our Senior School students.

Discover Creativity: Senior School Art Exhibition Now Open
Last Friday marked the opening of our Senior School Art Exhibition showcasing a diverse collection of creative work from across the term.

Our Year 12 Fine Art and Photography students have transformed the A Level Studio (D508) into their very own gallery space, presenting their first curated exhibition. Each piece reflects the dedication and thought they've poured into their work over the year.

At the same time, a colourful collection of artworks by Years 7 to 9 is now on display in the atrium, showcasing bold ideas and creative energy from our younger artists.

The exhibition is open until Wednesday 25 June.

Tasting Languages: A Cultural Lunch Outing

To mark the end of the academic year, students from Years 8, 9, and 10 enjoyed a delightful outing. French learners visited Chez Papa for a traditional French lunch, while Spanish learners headed to El Tapeo to enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine.

They sampled delicious dishes and shared warm, friendly moments together — a wonderful opportunity to practise their language skills and celebrate their hard work in a relaxed and joyful setting.

A big thank you to Ms Julie and the Modern Foreign Languages Department for organising such a fun (and tasty!) experience for our students!

Upton Zoo – The (Almost) Finale!

This week a very special guest hopped into Ms Upton’s Year 6 classroom, Ananda from Zephaniah Class brought in her pet rabbit, Summer! Summer is a dwarf teddy-bear rabbit, carefully bred for her fluffy fur and cuddly appearance—perfectly timed with the students’ current science topic on selective breeding and inheritance.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the class to learn through real-life examples, and Ananda did a brilliant job sharing Summer’s story.

A big thanks to Ananda (and Summer!) for making the lesson so memorable. Stay tuned for more guest animal visits!

Voltage T-Shirts Now Available for Pre-Order – Keep the Momentum Going!

After an incredible response and selling out most of their stock, our student-run booth has officially closed — but you can still support the cause by pre-ordering your Voltage T-shirt online:

The Voltage T-shirt is a student-designed, limited-edition item inspired by the Chiang Rai Fashion to the World: Season 3 project. Earlier this term, Wellington students from Years 10 to 12 worked directly with tribal artisans in northern Thailand to learn about traditional crafts and culture, returning with a mission to give back.

This initiative has already made waves including a full-page feature in a national newspaper [read here] and has raised over 100,000 THB towards scholarships for hill tribe children in Chiang Rai. The final donation amount will be announced on 1st September, so there’s still time to help us reach even higher.

Wellington College Bangkok is proud to support this meaningful project as an official partner — let’s help our students make an even greater impact!

🌹 Beauty and the Beast Auditions

Wellington’s Senior School production of Beauty and the Beast is already off to an exciting start, with an impressive 79 students auditioning for acting and singing roles before the summer break.

Mr Edwards, Producer and Director, shared his admiration:

“At the end of a very long year, it’s been truly remarkable to see such energy, passion, flame and spark in every audition.”

The audition process will continue next week, welcoming Year 6 students and featuring additional ensemble singing auditions. Mr Edwards also praised the students’ creativity, characterisation, and expressive storytelling.

Ms Corrigan and Mr Denyer-Green from the Music Team echoed the excitement, saying they were “overjoyed and amazed” by the standard, passion, and energy shown throughout the week.

A huge thank you to all families for supporting our performers — the stage is truly set for something special.

Turn Your Old WCIB Uniform into Something Meaningful

Have an old WCIB polo shirt your child no longer wears? Drop it off at the Copenhagen Café in the Junior School and give it a second life!

During the school break, we’ll send all donated shirts to Second Chance Bangkok, a non-profit that creates jobs for women in the Klong Toei slum community. There, the shirts will be lovingly transformed into handmade Wellyphant dolls — each one unique and full of heart.

It’s a simple way to recycle, support others, and be part of something truly special.

The donation box is open now until the end of term.
