Wrapping up the term with some fantastic news!
|
|
|
Dear Parents
Well done, everyone. The seventh year of Wellington College Bangkok: mission complete. Every day of it has held so much to enjoy, to be grateful for, to remember, to look forward to. Not a perfect year – there is no such thing – but a very, very good one. I’ll leave it to the Heads of School to explain the detail!
I’m off to Wellington in England for a week or so’s work there, then a spot of holiday, then back in August ready for IGCSE results, for opening the new Crowthorne Building, for welcoming 1,100 students and over 2,000 parents back, for settling in new staff, for beginning our first-ever Year 13, in a Sixth Form of more than 80 students. I can’t wait!
Enjoy the break; hope to see you refreshed and recharged on Tuesday 26 August.
With best wishes
Chris

What a way to end the year! Before we say goodbye for the summer, join the Master for a special look inside Crowthorne — our brand-new building opening next term.
He takes us through the impressive Design & Technology lab, fully equipped with modern tools ready for hands-on learning, and then up to the fifth floor, where the view over the whole campus is absolutely breathtaking.
We’re so excited to welcome everyone into this amazing new space in August. Until then — enjoy your summer break and we can’t wait to make new memories together next term!

Dear Parents,
As we reach the close of another vibrant and fulfilling academic year in the Junior School, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the many joyful experiences, proud achievements, and magical moments that have shaped our school community over the past months.
Our Early Years children brought boundless energy and imagination to their Superhero Sports Day, where capes flew and smiles beamed as they raced, jumped, and collected points with enthusiasm. Pre-Nursery’s trip to the farm was also a delightful adventure, full of wonder and discovery, while Reception’s enchanting Fairytale Ball transported us all into a world of magic, dance and stories coming to life.
In Key Stage 1, our Year 2 students experienced the excitement of their very first Safari school sleepover—a day and night filled with laughter, fun, and the thrill of being at school after dark. It was a perfect stepping stone towards greater independence and confidence.
Our Year 3 students embraced the great outdoors during their residential trip, where they took part in a range of adventurous activities, including the ever-popular fire-making challenge. It was a trip of courage, teamwork, and of course - unforgettable memories.
In Music, we had our inaugural Solo Music Festival, which saw a fantastic number of students take to the stage to share their musical talents over a Saturday morning. The confidence and passion on display were inspiring, and we look forward to making this a cherished annual tradition.
Our older students have continued to impress with their achievements this term. Year 5 and 6 proudly represented our school at the Bangkok Games, competing alongside peers from international schools across the city. Their sportsmanship, determination, and team spirit were truly commendable across all the sports they played during the week.
And finally, we must celebrate the spectacular Year 6 production of A Hint of Snow White. With a live orchestra and a stunning choir made up of students from Years 3 to 5, the performance was a true showcase of creativity, collaboration, and talent. It was a fitting finale for our Year 6 students as they prepare to take their next steps into the Senior School.
While these events stand out, they are just a glimpse into the everyday magic that happens in our classrooms. From thoughtful discussions and creative projects to quiet moments of discovery and joyful friendships, our students have grown not just academically this year, but of course socially and emotionally too. I am so proud of each and every one of them.
I want to thank our whole community for everything you have done to ensure such great successes: our teachers, parents and of course children as well. Thank you for everything.
As we look ahead to the next academic year, we do so with great excitement — there is so much to look forward to.
Until August, I wish you and your family a restful, joyful holiday.
Warmest regards.
Hannah

Dear Parents,
At the end of my first year as Head of Senior School, it is important to take stock of what an incredible year it has been. It is a true privilege to work alongside such talented, kind, and inspiring students, whose energy and enthusiasm have made this year unforgettable.
From the outset, our students have embraced every opportunity with passion and commitment. The house competitions were nothing short of extraordinary - full of spirit, teamwork, and healthy rivalry. Our school production of The Addams Family was a standout moment, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our students and staff. We’re already looking forward to Beauty and the Beast in November, which promises to be another spectacular event. The Christmas Fair was another highlight. Thank you to the Friends of Wellington for organising such a magical occasion that captured the festive spirit so beautifully.
Beyond the school gates, our students have embraced adventure, service, and personal growth through a wide range of enriching experiences. From carving through the slopes on the Japan Ski Trip to participating in meaningful charity events, residentials, and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, each opportunity has helped them develop resilience, leadership, and independence. All qualities that will serve them well long into the future.
Sporting achievements have been outstanding this year. From the pool to the golf course, tennis courts, soccer pitch, and table tennis tables, our students have demonstrated skill, perseverance, and sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
A special mention must go to our Year 11 and Year 12 students, who have worked tirelessly in preparation for their IGCSE and AS exams. Their dedication has been commendable, and we look forward to celebrating their results in August.
Looking ahead, there is so much to be excited about, including the opening of the state-of-the-art Crowthorne Building. This building will feature cutting-edge facilities, including dedicated spaces for Design Technology, Computing, and Robotics, as well as brand-new music rooms, practice suites, a drama studio, and a fully equipped Food Technology room. These spaces will enrich our students’ learning experiences and support their creativity and innovation. Next summer, we will also proudly celebrate our first graduating class, Year 13 - a historic moment for our community.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you when we return to school in August.
With best wishes,
Jane

What a truly extraordinary year it has been for sport at Wellington College Bangkok. From those representing the College at the very highest level — winning medals at national and international competitions — to those who laced up their trainers and took part in competitive school sport for the first time, this year has celebrated participation, performance and progress in equal measure.
We have hosted major international events, including a fantastic 3-day FOBISIA Golf Tournament and 2-day FOBISIA Table Tennis Tournament, launched new sporting partnerships, and watched our students achieve new personal bests and podium finishes across Bangkok and beyond. Our sports programme has never been broader, richer, or more inclusive.
But our ambitions don’t stop here. Next year marks a major step forward as we leave GBAC and join the Bangkok International Schools Association (BISA) – a high-calibre network of British curriculum schools including Shrewsbury (Riverside and City), Rugby School, Harrow, King’s College, Denla, Bangkok Prep and St Andrews Sukhumvit 71.
This move is all about growth. It will challenge our students, stretch our teams, and offer more frequent, higher-quality competition. The structure will change, with four sports seasons, weekend tournaments, and a brand new set of opponents — but our core philosophy remains the same: we are here to develop resilient, reflective, and ambitious young sportspeople.
We will continue to:
· Compete in the Siam Schools League (SSL) for football
· Enter mid-season invitationals across sports
· Deepen partnerships, such as our new collaboration with Bangkok Volleyball Academy, who will lead coaching and offer a Senior School Academy programme on Monday and Wednesday evenings
Thank you to every student who trained and competed, every parent who supported from the sidelines, and every coach and teacher who helped make this programme thrive.
Now, let’s take a moment to look back on some of this year’s highlights across the sporting landscape.
Cricket – Dr Peter Church
The Wellington College Cheetahs enjoyed a highly successful Summer Term with victories in their two biggest annual competitions. In May, the Cheetahs retained the Under 13 GBAC title, at a tournament hosted by Thai Sikh International School, remaining undefeated at the event. Later in the month, the Cheetahs defeated The British Club in a nail-biting finale to win the Summer Sixes 2025. George (Year 7) displayed great leadership qualities and commitment throughout the year as the Club Captain. Former captain, Sky (Year 8), was awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy. Gabriel (Year 6) heads off to the UK to play hard ball cricket at an international school, departing as the Cheetah’s leading run scorer in 2024/25.
Table Tennis – Dr Peter Church
The highlight of Summer Term was the end of year awards ceremony, with Wellington College Director, Mr Gurdist Chansrichawla, a devoted supporter of Table Tennis at Wellington, presenting the trophies to the leading Dukes Academy players. The players had competed in a ranking tournament throughout 2025, with the Club Captain, Gabriel (Year 6), winning first place. Raphael (Year 5) was second, Mattie (Year 8) was third, and Ben (Year 5) came in fourth place. The other award was for Rookie of the Year, which was won by Namthap (Year 3), who displayed incredible enthusiasm and dedication over the year. Many Wellington players have competed at TTAT ranking tournaments during the academic year, with the highlight being the prestigious STIGA Team Cup 2025, at which Gabriel and Raphael joined a team of four representing the Dukes Academy to win the silver medal. Kraam (Year 5) has been appointed Club Captain for 2025/26.
Athletics – Mr Tom Lemon
Whilst Athletics has been a minority sport at WCIB this year, our students have continued to have great success during the events we have attended this year. In December, following months of training during Michaelmas Term, we attended our biggest meet of the year, the GBAC Athletics Championships. This year saw more WCIB athletes compete than ever before. A total of 48 students from the Junior School and Senior School attended and competed with energy and determination, with 23 of these winning one medal and a further 12 students winning multiple medals. Our teams finished 1st in U15, 2nd in Senior and therefore 3rd overall.
There were some stand-out performances that are worthy of mention and these are: Thomas Jeffs – U15 800m & 1500m Gold, and Wiki – Gold in Discus and Shot Put.
More recently Senior School students have achieved further success at the GBAC Athletics, and the Junior School students have competed in the Bangkok Games. There were some excellent performances once again and a great many personal bests were set.
Tennis – Coach J
Our students performed admirably at FOBISIA Tennis. Punn and Venice represented the U10 boys and girls respectively, with Venice showing significant improvement in her first ever competition and receiving praise from other schools. Punn reached the quarter-finals, a testament to his dedication and composure under pressure. Emily represented the U11 girls and went on to win her category, an outstanding achievement. At the senior level, Ben, Nida, and Tuang competed in the U13 and over 15 age groups. Though results were mixed, the experience was invaluable, and we’re proud of their perseverance and positive representation of WCIB.
Triathlon – Mr Jason Dass
Triathlon continues to grow at Wellington and both our free-of-charge Wednesday Wex and our professional coaching on Saturday mornings are a huge success giving children plenty of opportunities to swim, run and cycle as well as focusing on general fitness and being competition-ready. Wellington hosted two very successful national triathlon competitions this year and we have had many children not only achieve personal best times, but also achieve podium positions. My thanks as always to Ms Jayne Scott and Mr Ben Findlay who graciously volunteer every Wednesday to give children this opportunity as well as my thanks to Coaches Samuel and TC who assist with the Saturday venture.
Football – Coach Yurii
This year has been a big one for our football programme. Our students have been training hard, competing well, and most importantly—growing together as teammates.
At the GBAC Cup, our U15 girls and U13 boys finished in 3rd place—each of those teams showing real resilience and strong teamwork. The U11 boys took the top spot in the SSL League, finishing as champions after a consistent and focused season.
As the season went on, we saw more great results come in. The U19 boys were crowned GBAC champions, while the U9 boys also finished 1st after a fantastic tournament run. The U11 boys earned a 2nd place, and both our U13 boys and girls finished in 3rd, showing just how competitive each group has become. Our U9 boys also earned 3rd place at the Patana 7s.
Beyond the results, this has been a year where friendships across year groups have grown stronger. Players have supported one another on and off the pitch, and that’s what sport in schools is about—learning to work as a team, facing challenges together, and celebrating not just the wins, but the effort and progress along the way.
Golf – Coach Michael
It’s been another fantastic year for golf at Wellington, filled with success, growth, and community spirit.
Our Golf Team pushed all the way to the wire in the ISGT, finishing as runners-up in the overall season by just two strokes behind ASB. The margins were fine, but the progress we’ve made has been huge year on year. One of our standout moments came when Wellington proudly hosted the FOBISIA Golf Tournament, welcoming over 120 student golfers from across Southeast Asia. We retained our title in style, making it two wins in two appearances, a testament to the quality and depth of our program.
Our Development Squad continues to thrive, with more Wellington students competing in these events than any other school in Bangkok. Every single student in the program has improved their scoring since the start of the year—a fact we are incredibly proud of.
This year, we also worked to bring our wider community into the game. Our festive Christmas Scramble and lively Songkran Scramble were great fun and well-supported, with thanks to all who joined—including our resident teacher-golfers. Long may Mr Nicholls continue to employ not only world-class teachers but world-class teachers who are keen golf enthusiasts. We also ran a successful charity golf day, supported by our amazing parent community—special thanks to Khun Boy and his team for helping to organize such a memorable event. We will continue to make this bigger and better year on year!
A heartfelt thank you must also go to our dedicated golf professionals, who support our players every single week. Their time, energy, and expertise are the backbone of our program—and without them, none of this would be possible.
Behind the scenes, our efforts to support students through the US university recruitment process are beginning to bear fruit. Many of our top golfers are now in America competing and gaining experience at the highest level—and we are so proud to follow their journey.
Swimming – Coach Goddard
The highlight of the term came at the Thailand National Championships, where Wellington had a record 13 swimmers qualify, including three first-time qualifiers. Our athletes didn’t just participate—they shone brightly, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals. A special congratulations to Skye, Klarnissa, and Pangrum, who were awarded top points trophies, and to the whole team for helping Wellington secure 6th place overall out of 200 teams—the highest placement for a school in the entire competition!
To cap off an extraordinary season, six of our top swimmers—Kim, Orca, Skye, Maya, Klarnissa, and Pangrum—have been selected to represent the Thailand National Junior Team at the South East Asia Age Games Championships in Singapore. They are currently there proudly representing both their country and Wellington on the international stage. We couldn’t be prouder!
Netball – Ms Mathews
Netball is one of the newest additions to our sporting programme at WCIB, and it has quickly gained momentum. Throughout the year, our students have been training with commitment and enthusiasm, laying strong foundations in both technical skills and tactical understanding. This year saw fixtures for both the U13 and U15 teams — important milestones that mark the beginning of our competitive netball journey. The potential and promise shown by our players has been hugely encouraging, and we are excited to take the next step as we look ahead to joining the Bangkok Netball league next academic year. With more fixtures, structured competition, and dedicated coaching, netball at WCIB is set to flourish.
Volleyball – Mr Gant
Volleyball made its official debut on the WCIB sports programme this year, and the response from students has been phenomenal. With over 120 students training weekly, the enthusiasm and uptake for the sport has exceeded all expectations. Our U15 girls’ and boys’ teams proudly represented the College for the first time at the GBAC Volleyball Tournament — a landmark moment that demonstrated both the passion and potential within our growing squads.
Looking ahead, we are incredibly excited to build on this strong foundation. From August, we will launch an exciting new partnership with Bangkok Volleyball Academy, bringing in elite coaching to lead our school teams and further elevate the quality of training. In addition, the Wellington Volleyball Academy will open its doors on Monday and Wednesday evenings for Senior School students who want to train at a higher level. With these developments in place, volleyball at WCIB is poised for an outstanding year of growth and success.
GBAC Games U13 (May, 2025)
The GBAC Games provided an outstanding opportunity for our U13 students to showcase their sporting talent, teamwork, and determination across two action-packed days of competition. As a new even this year, twelve boys and twelve girls were selected to form the U13 GBAC Games squad, with each student required to compete in football, basketball, and athletics over the course of the event. With varying levels of experience across the three sports, teamwork, adaptability, and support for one another were essential in ensuring the team performed cohesively across all disciplines.
Bringing together international schools from across the GBAC conference, the event created a vibrant and competitive atmosphere that encouraged our students to push themselves in football, basketball, and athletics. Highlights included a superb performance from the boys’ basketball team, who displayed exceptional skill, resilience, and unity to secure a well-earned second-place finish. The boys’ football team also impressed, finishing third after a series of strong tactical performances that reflected the hard work and development shown throughout the season. Across all sports, our girls’ teams stood out for their spirit and tenacity, consistently approaching each challenge with positivity, resilience, and great determination — many achieving personal bests in athletics as a result. In track and field events, boys and girls alike produced standout performances, earning medals and contributing valuable points towards the team’s overall success. Beyond the results, our students embodied sportsmanship, maturity, and teamwork, supporting one another and showing great respect to their opponents and officials. They represented WCIB with pride and should be immensely proud of their efforts.
Bangkok Games (June, 2025)
Most recently, 85 of our U11 students took part in the Bangkok Games — a week-long celebration of sport, friendship and participation. Each day, students travelled to different international schools across the city to compete in a variety of sports, including Football, Basketball, Tennis, Athletics, Netball, Touch Rugby, and Swimming. The focus of this event was not on results, but on encouraging every child to engage in sport, try something new, and experience the joy of being part of a team. It was a truly memorable week for our students — and for many, it was a springboard into future sporting involvement. For those who don’t usually consider themselves ‘sporty’, we hope this was just the beginning of their journey.
Final Word. As we close this record-breaking year, I want to thank each and every family for being part of our sporting journey. Whether your child was winning medals or finding their confidence through sport, their experience mattered deeply.
Sport at WCIB is not just about results — it’s about building belonging, character, resilience and passion. And with more opportunity than ever coming next year, we can’t wait to see our students rise again.
Wishing you all a restful and active break,
Helen Mathews
Director of Sport

FoW Tour: Sneak Peek at Crowthorne Ahead of Opening
|
|
|
On Monday, our Master, Mr Chris Nicholls, led representatives from the Friends of Wellington committee on a special walkthrough of the new Crowthorne Building, set to open next academic term in August.
This exciting new space is designed to elevate learning across the school — with modern, well-equipped facilities including a state-of-the-art Design & Technology Lab, a fully fitted Cooking Lab, and spacious classrooms that support creative, hands-on learning.
One of the highlights is the fifth-floor panoramic walkway, offering stunning views across the Wellington campus — a breathtaking spot where students and staff can enjoy the view and feel inspired.
We’re thrilled to welcome our community into this new chapter. New space. Same Wellington spirit.

Meanwhile at the A Level Science Lab |
|
|
As part of their Year 11 to Year 12 transition, students explored how alkenes react with bromine—taking their IGCSE knowledge to the next level. Dr Sneddon, Teacher of Chemistry, and Mrs Nunes, Head of Science, demonstrated the reaction using volatile compounds released from frying bacon, with students observing bromine decolourisation firsthand. They then tackled a more complex reaction mechanism and received valuable advice on how to approach A Level Chemistry with confidence and curiosity. |

The Year 6 graduation party was a fitting and colourful celebration of the children’s achievements this year. They were treated to delicious food, music, and good vibes! Highlights included a lively limbo contest, a fancy dress photo booth, and personalised certificates for every child. Heartfelt speeches marked the end of a special year, with a warm farewell to Mr Dass. Huge thanks to all the class reps for helping make it all happen… roll on Senior School! |

Year 4 wrapped up the term with a joyful and heartwarming Breakfast Banquet. Children, parents, and teachers gathered to enjoy a delicious breakfast together and reflect on what has been a fantastic year of learning and growth.
There were smiles all around as awards were handed out, and each group confidently shared their Year 4 journey—highlighting key skills, favourite moments, and proud achievements. The children also handpicked pieces of work to show their parents, celebrating just how far they’ve come.
A big thank you to our wonderful Parent Reps and the amazing Year 4 class teachers for organising such a special event. What a perfect way to celebrate the end of an incredible year!

Sixth Form End-of-Year Celebration on the Chao Phraya River
|
|
|
To mark the end of a successful year, our Sixth Form students enjoyed an elegant evening aboard the Shangri-La Horizon Cruise, sailing along the beautiful Chao Phraya River.
This event was especially significant for our pioneer Year 12 group, who have been trailblazers throughout the year.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Bangkok’s illuminated skyline, the evening offered a relaxed setting for students and staff to reflect on their achievements.
A carefully curated buffet of Thai and international dishes complemented the warm and festive atmosphere.
It was a perfect way to celebrate and look forward to the year ahead.

This month in the Skylight Library, we’ve been celebrating Pride — a reminder that everyone, no matter who they are or who they love, deserves to feel safe, seen, and respected.
"I believe that books have the power to reflect our identities, broaden our understanding, and inspire empathy. That’s why it’s so important to curate collections that represent a wide range of voices and experiences — helping every reader feel recognised, while also opening their hearts and minds to lives different from their own.
In our libraries, everyone is welcome, everyone matters, and every story counts."

Last week, Year 2 hosted their exciting Safari Showcase, giving parents the chance to see all the fantastic work from our summer term topic. The children worked collaboratively in groups, forming their own safari companies complete with creative names and logos. Each team designed a unique safari experience, researched and wrote a non-chronological report about one of the Big Five animals, and mapped out an adventurous itinerary for their tour.
A highlight was the design and construction of their own safari vehicles—some of which could float, fly, or do both! Parents were invited to hear each company's pitch and then cast their votes for the most exciting safari. It was a wonderful celebration of the children’s hard work, creativity, and teamwork.

Year 9 Mandarin Gets Hands-On with Homemade Liang Pi!
|
|
|
Our Year 9 Mandarin students dove into Chinese culture by making
Liang Pi—a tasty traditional snack from Northwest China. With soft, chewy noodles, crisp veggies, and bold, flavour-packed sauces, it’s no wonder this dish is a favourite across China!
Students mixed their own sauces, picked fresh ingredients, and built their very own delicious bowls from scratch. It was a fun, hands-on way to practise Mandarin while exploring the flavours and traditions behind the food.
Huge thanks to Ms Tina for leading such a fantastic, flavour-filled lesson!
