FROM THE MASTER

Dear Parents,

A little more on traffic.  We have been meeting and talking with the traffic police and the local authorities to work on ways to help everyone deal with the morning traffic.  A particularly difficult pinch point is the junction there by Mama Pasta (which, you will know, is an excellent restaurant).  More than anything, this is due to sheer weight of traffic, but road user behaviour is also, at times, regrettably poor.

If you are stuck in traffic in the morning, please don’t stress about getting to school on time: if it’s impossible, it’s impossible.  We understand this issue and are not penalising any student for being a few minutes late, at the moment.

I shall have some positive news on a number of (partial) solutions shortly.  Once the road-widening project is complete, we will be in a significantly better position, of course.

Next week, the Master of Wellington College (UK), Mr James Dahl, will be visiting us.  We have given him a very full schedule, with meetings, an assembly for Senior School, tours, discussions with students, with parents, and more.  If you see him, though, do say hello.  He will be delighted to speak to as many people as he can.  He’s a very nice man, also!

How about this weather.  The ducks are having fun.

Have a great weekend

With best wishes

Chris

HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

Dear Parents,

One of the week’s highlights for me has been interviewing our passionate Year 6 students for this year’s House Captain roles. This marks the first stage of the selection process, with successful candidates preparing to deliver speeches to their peers in next Friday’s House Assembly. The students’ confidence, thoughtful reflections, and genuine desire to lead were truly inspiring - it’s clear they take this opportunity to represent their Houses with great seriousness and pride.

I also had the pleasure of spending time in Early Years, where our youngest learners have already settled in beautifully. Their visible curiosity, joy, and sense of belonging are a testament to the nurturing and engaging environment created by our dedicated Early Years team.

Last Friday’s Year 2 Pirate Event was another wonderful celebration of learning. The excitement was infectious as students and parents worked together to solve clues, navigate treasure hunts, and tackle obstacle courses. It was heartwarming to see families so wholeheartedly involved - thank you to all involved for helping make it such a memorable experience for the children.

A few reminders as we look ahead:

  • We are nearing the end of the sign-up period for our Year 3–6 residentials. If you would like your child to attend, please follow the sign-up instructions shared
  • Settling-in Parent-Teacher Conferences for Years 1–6 will take place during the week commencing 22 September. Booking links will open on Monday via inWellington - don’t forget to schedule your appointment with your child’s Class Teacher.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL

Dear Parents,

It’s been a lively and engaging week in the Senior School, even if the weather (and traffic) has been challenging at times.

We kicked off our Lunchtime Lecture Series with a fascinating session led by Ms Scourti on Creation Without Consent: The Ethics of Creation. It was really well attended and sparked some thoughtful discussion - a brilliant way to start the series. This half term, we’re focusing the lectures on ethics, with next week’s session set to be just as thought-provoking as we explore Ethics & Integrity: Why We Fail to Do What’s Right and What to Do About It.

Miss Wills, Deputy Head Pastoral, ran a fantastic session for parents on Pastoral Care and Supporting Children’s Emotional Health. She shared some really valuable insights, including the importance of setting healthy limits around screen time and making sure children are getting enough sleep. These are two key factors in supporting wellbeing. Miss Wills also outlined the many avenues of support available here at Wellington, from our pastoral team and school counsellors to tutor support and peer mentoring, all designed to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and supported.

Meanwhile, rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast are well underway. The first student-led choreography session took place this week and, by all accounts, it was of an incredibly high standard. The excitement is already building for the performance in November. It’s going to be something special!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Jane
