Dear Parents
We were disappointed this week when James Dahl, Master of Wellington College (UK) landed at Suvarnabhumi only to discover that he had to turn around and fly back to England because of a school inspection! (We are lucky here to be able to schedule our inspections; in the UK, they come with no notice.)
Nevertheless, we were very pleased to welcome four other Wellington UK visitors this week: Joel Worrall, a new member of our Board; Rachel Loaring, Academic Director; Murray Lindo, Head of the Wellington Community; and Phil Mann, Director of Admissions. They met students and staff, and spent time in and out of classrooms on Wednesday and Thursday. I’ve always said that we have a first-class relationship with our founding school – and it’s absolutely true. There will be plenty more coming over the course of the year; next visits I think will be in November, around the time of the Bangkok Festival of Education #3, which we host.
This week, we increased (doubled!) the number of people on traffic duty in the road in front of the Junior School. This step has smoothed traffic flow again. We are still seeing some unacceptable driving behaviour, particularly around the Villa Albero junction. Please do remain patient and obey all traffic rules.
You may know that our Senior production this year, Beauty and the Beast, will take place on 26-27 November, in the Theatre. Rehearsals are well underway, and I think I’ll pop in over the weekend to see how our actors, singers and dancers are doing. I’ve been pleased to see the new Crowthorne Drama Studio in heavy rotation for rehearsal – and I was very impressed by a big musical number I saw them practising there last week. It’s going to be an outstanding show!
I hope you have a great weekend; stay dry, if you can!
With best wishes
Chris

Dear Junior School Parents,
One of my highlights for this week was welcoming our special visitors from Wellington College International and TWC, who joined us to explore our vibrant learning environment and engage in exciting conversations about the future of our Wellington family. It was a fantastic opportunity to share the spirit and energy of our school, and to reflect on the values that unite us across the global Wellington community.
We were also delighted to witness our Year 6 students doing their speeches for today’s House Captain elections. Each child spoke with confidence and conviction, passion and clarity, and it was clear how much thought and effort had gone into their speeches. We are incredibly proud of them all and look forward to announcing the elected representatives on Monday.
Looking ahead to next week, we have our Settling-In Parent Teacher Conferences for Years 1 to 6, which are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s class teacher and share how they are settling into the new school year. We also have our individual school photos taking place for children from Pre-Nursery through to Year 6 - so please keep an eye out for reminders from class teachers to help everyone be photo-ready. Full school uniforms are required!
As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to sharing more exciting updates with you in the weeks ahead!
Have a super weekend.
Hannah

Dear Parents,
It’s been a pleasure to welcome guests from Wellington College UK this week, including Rachel Loaring, who spoke to our Year 12 students and their parents about the UK University Pathway Programme. This exciting residential experience will take place at TWC next summer and is designed to support Year 12 students as they prepare for their UCAS applications. The programme will also focus on interview techniques, critical thinking, and aptitude test preparation. Alongside several university visits, students will have the opportunity to meet and speak with Old Wellingtonians who are currently studying or have recently graduated from some of the UK’s top universities. It’s an excellent opportunity, particularly for those considering applications to Oxbridge, UCAS, and Russell Group institutions.
We’re also delighted to share that our much-loved Welly Walk is returning for its third year on Friday 24 October. This event has become a cherished tradition in our school calendar, and we’re excited to once again come together as a community to raise money for some fantastic causes. We hope to see many of our students and families take part in what promises to be a joyful and meaningful day.
It was lovely to see our Year 7 parents on Wednesday evening as they met with House Tutors. We’re so pleased with how well Year 7 have settled into the rhythm of Senior School and are embracing their new environment with enthusiasm and positivity.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Wishing you a restful weekend.
Jane Sharp

Wellington College Education’s debut podcast, Wellington Spotlights, is hosted by Sir Anthony Seldon.
This new initiative, created exclusively for the Wellington family - parents, pupils, staff and alumni across all Wellington schools, will bring you into conversation with some of the most fascinating and thought-provoking voices of our time. Each week, Sir Anthony will welcome a special guest: writers, historians, scientists, cultural leaders and public figures, to explore the issues shaping our lives, our world and our future.
Future episodes include discussion with former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer and Foreign Secretary, Sir Jeremy Hunt, on the global economy, Cambridge Professor, Sarah-Jane Vickers, on the adolescent brain, and Astronomer Royal, Lord Martin Rees, on life beyond Earth and humanity's future, but the series starts with:
Episode 1: Hugo Vickers
Distinguished royal biographer Hugo Vickers, who reveals the untold story of the British royal family’s close relationship with Wellington College over more than 160 years.
