Dear Parents
On Monday, I enjoyed spending some time with Mr Goddard and Pangrum, our Y9 swimmer who won silver in the recent SEA Games. Achievements of that sort (Pangrum and her Wellington teammates will have many more, and Mr Goddard remembers many of his own!) do not come easily, or without struggle, challenge, difficulty, setbacks, emotional and physical lows as well as highs. We don’t see the hours and hours of repetitive practice, the early mornings, the exhaustion. We see the medal!
The most successful education (and successful growing-up) is not a smooth track from ‘cannot’ to ‘can’, with every obstacle removed. As parents, that’s what our hearts wish for our children – no pain, only gain.
But, although pain is unavoidable, suffering is not.
With strong, caring, wise, calm, rational parents and teachers, young people can face (not avoid) the pains of growing and learning, knowing they are unconditionally supported. When they feel alone through it all: that’s when the suffering floods in.
‘Unconditional’ is a wonderful word. Not just with university offers (more about those soon) but also when attached to ‘support’, and to ‘love’.
I hope you have a most peaceful weekend.
With best wishes
Chris

Dear Parents,
Drama and Music took centre stage in our Junior School assembly last week, when we all thoroughly enjoyed an impressive Year 5 performance exploring journeys throughout history. What a joy it was to see such creativity, enthusiasm, and confidence from all the children involved. We are now very much looking forward to the upcoming Year 4 performance on the Twelve Labours of Hercules, as well as Year 2's performance all about dragons!
Mathematics has also been a highlight this week, with the annual Wellbright Maths Day challenge taking place on Monday. A small group of Year 3 and 4 students from both Wellington and Brighton worked collaboratively together in teams, taking on challenging problems that stretched their thinking and showcased their passion for the subject. A big thank you to Mr Kertesz for arranging such a valuable opportunity for our young mathematicians.
Across the Junior School, we are working together to ensure that all children take pride in wearing their uniforms smartly each day. Please support us by checking your child has the correct clothing - including black shoes (from Year 1) and ties (from Year 3). As always, all children must also bring a named hat to school every day to ensure they can keep safe when playing in the sun.
Thank you so much for all of your support - wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.
Kindest regards,
Hannah

Dear Parents,
As we step into the final days of January, it’s remarkable to think that we are already approximately halfway through this academic year - and with so much happening across the school, it’s no wonder that time seems to be flying by.
This week alone showcases the incredible breadth of opportunities our students enjoy. We are thrilled to be once again taking part in FOBISIA Battle of the Bands, a celebration of musical talent and collaboration across international schools. Alongside this, our pupils are sharpening their rhetoric and critical thinking in the exciting rounds of House Debating.
Our community spirit is equally vibrant. Orange House Open Morning welcomes families to see the joy and energy of House life in action, while the UK Maths Challenge provides a platform for our mathematicians to stretch and shine. We are also looking forward to our FoW Movie Night, bringing families together in the new Elizabeth Hall.
We continue to strengthen the vital partnership between school and home. This week also brings our online Sixth Form Parent Workshops, designed to support families as students navigate the final stages of their school journey, along with our Year 10 Parents’ Evening - an important evening to reflect on the first six months of the IGCSE course and to gather personalised advice on how students can continue to make strong, sustained progress in the months ahead.
With so many things packed into just a few days, it’s hardly surprising that the year is moving at pace!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Jane |
