Dear Parents
After today (Friday), there are 14½ school days left until the Songkran holiday. Not to say that learning stops during the break – it certainly doesn’t: we learn in many different ways, and some of those ways definitely don’t depend on being at school. But I was struck this week by how important it is to learn together, with an expert teacher, in this environment.
I had popped in to a Y7 English lesson. What they were doing involved creating maps, writing persuasive speeches, understanding human motivations, working together on developing strategic thought. It was both engaging and impressively layered. Humans are not a solitary species. Expertly designed lessons don’t just make facts go in your head. They also train you in how to learn. And doing that together, in the mini-society which is school, activates complex social development in a very positive way.
Today’s technology is – in some ways – pushing us towards being alone (with ‘friends’ rather than friends, and ‘liking’ rather than liking, and AI ‘happy’ to answer every question without ever getting annoyed), but a carefully-designed school, with carefully-designed teaching, is actually an amazingly rich real life!
Have a great weekend
With best wishes
Chris

Dear Parents,
This week I am delighted to share the exciting news that one of our KS2 Drama Enrichment groups reached the finals of the FOBISIA Drama Competition. Although they narrowly missed out on a top placing, the judges awarded them a special Honorary Mention in recognition of their talent, teamwork, and expressive performance. A huge congratulations to Anya, Sand, Mabel, and Faye‑Faye for their hard work, confidence, and passion for the arts. We are incredibly proud of them, and a huge thank you to Ms Rickaby for your support and guidance in this wonderful project.
We celebrated further student-led learning in Friday’s assembly when we heard directly from the students who took part in this year’s Science Competition. Children from Year 1 confidently presented their projects to the whole school, showcasing their creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning. It was a wonderful way to celebrate British Science Week, and a reminder of how curious (and capable) our young scientists truly are.
Next week promises to be equally vibrant, with our Nursery ‘Come Sing with Me’ family events taking place, as well as several exciting opportunities for our older students who will be visiting other Bangkok international schools for the Languages Olympiad and an exciting Student Leadership event.
Until then, wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Kind regards,
Hannah |

Dear Parents,
Next week, we are delighted to be celebrating British Science Week in the Senior School, an event that champions curiosity, creativity and discovery. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to take part in a range of hands‑on activities, explore different scientific disciplines, and enjoy a dedicated Science Week assembly along with a House Tutor-time quiz designed to spark curiosity and celebrate scientific thinking. Students can also get involved in a variety of engaging activities taking place in the Atrium at lunchtimes, including microscopy, psychology tests and reaction‑time experiments. After school, they will also have opportunities to take part in engineering challenges and to explore sustainable materials by making plastic from seaweed.
Science and Mathematics are currently our most popular A Level subjects, reflecting the enthusiasm and commitment our students show towards these areas. Many of our Year 13 students already hold offers to study highly competitive courses such as medicine, materials science, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and pharmaceutical science, among many others. British Science Week offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate both this passion for science and the exceptional teaching that supports our students as they pursue ambitious future pathways.
Please note a couple of reminders for our families: Year 7 parents will receive their child’s report on Tuesday next week, and we are very much looking forward to our student‑led charity Smile Creators Basketball Tournament on Sunday 22, which promises to be a fantastic community event.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Jane |
